I just spent about $100 just a few months ago to have the pleasure of playing this game, and now they go and release the thing on PS2. Sure, it spreads the magic of the game to all sorts of people of todays generation, but come on, the PS2? The system that shut down the Dreamcast? I feel like Sega has given up its long term fans for profit, instead looking for young, new gamers to entertain. That hurts.
Thanks for putting it in away that sounds nice. By the way is this gump in space from the benheck forums?

I can empathise with the whole betrayal thing, I still find it hard to atmit that I own a PSX (it is in the attic by itself). Its not that sony dont make good systems, its that they killed my beloved sega. If they lost to Nintendo it wouldnt have hurt so much because at least Nintendo had battled long and hard for primary spot in the market. 2 machines and sony kill sega and all but reduce the gamecube to anonimity. Gutting. I dont mind sonic being on an XBox but a PS just seems so sad.
Did the value go down when [radiant silvergun] become perfectly emulated on PC?
probalby not but the kind of people who are willing to pay £100 for a game with spinecard and a nice manual arent the same people who want to own the game purely to enjoy playing it. If it were to be ported I'm sure the same collectors would still pay a fair amount for a saturn orginal but surely it will devalue considerably

See I actually don't like the Playstation because it made gaming really mainstream which way sound like me being a snobby ass but that's what killed arcades and great games as opposed to ones that sell.

I feel the same way. It does feel like sacrilege but at least other people get to enjoy the game. And if it sells well (and the Wii sequel) we may even get more games in the franchise. Now thats got to be worth the sacrilege right?

To me it just seems like Sega is slowly getting its act together and actually making good desicions by re-releasing its old classics. Just hope they release it outside of Japan and maybe put it up on PSN/LIVE/VC.

LOL. Looks like were not the only ones to feel like this: http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/

Actually all this talk about NiGHTS, and my recent infatuation with the game between bouts of Mario, got me thinking. It would not be terribly difficult to build a NiGHTS arcade cabinet. Using a PSX controller and a psx to gamecube adapter you could even put the new one in it over time. Just gotta figure out how many buttons I would need and Ill come up with a schematic soon. I am thinking a lowboy with a 20-24 inch screen and roughly four feet tall. Any thoughts?

Nights is a console game. It belongs there.

Likewise, arcade games belong in cabinets. Don't get your formats messed up.

Ugh, I don't understand any of this fanboy crap. Sonic whored out on all the systems, and I don't remember anyone complaining. Besides the games sucking for the most part, at least sega made some profits for once. No one will argue that PS1 and PS2 were structural fucking disasters, but there's bound to be a lot of people with PS2s who never owned a saturn, but heard about NiGHTS quite a few times. These people are getting a 2nd chance at it, and you guys can't stop that.

opethfan we already had this discussion to no avail in another topic. And while we kinda let it go to moot there let me explain my point:

My view is this, it cost me very little to replace a joystick and some buttons if they are arcade components, ej this one I would use a Seimitsu LS-32 or a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT (I happen to have a white version of the latter) and the corresponding companies buttons, compared to replacing a saturn 3d pad. If I had to replace all of the buttons and joystick, I could do it for roughly $30 with shipping, I would be lucky to find a 3d pad for that price, or even $40 with shipping - if I am wrong please tell me. But this is only the convention head in me talking about wear over the years.

Personally I feel if a game can get any sort of boost of enjoyment from playing with a specific controller or control type then I will try my best for that to happen. Since so many people complain about how hard it is to play NiGHTS with a dpad, myself included, my first thought was hacking a pad into an arcade controller. This would not only let me enjoy it without trying to get my 3d pad into working shape, but it also allows me to let more people enjoy the game. Ive put on conventions of all types for a living for a couple years and when running an anime or gaming convention it is one of my favorite things to see someone run into a game they have never seen before, or played in days long gone but thought no one else had heard of it, and they get a chance to share it with their friends. Nostalgia may be a form of advice passed from one point in time to another, but you cannot imagine the excitement you can see in someones eyes when they lay eyes on a well played copy of ASL Eastern Front or a working copy of Wild Gunman (yes I know ASL is a wargame, bear with me) and they get a chance to play it.

At the last convention I provided video games for I cannot tell you the joy and wonder I saw in peoples eyes when I brought out a Saturn and even more so when I handed the youngest child in the group of onlookers the 3d pad for NiGHTS. The child was no older than eight, he had never even heard of a Saturn, and just happened to be in the room at the time. I explained to him what he needed to do and later his mother thanked me and said that it was his favorite part of the entire weekend - they have since bought a Saturn, 3d controller, and NiGHTS. Now my 3d controller is dead, like dead dead, I think the potentiometer is shot. But if I can build an arcade cabinet that can bring even a fraction of that excitement to anyone in the future, well then I couldnt give two shits about what someone else thinks about what I do.

Sure some people consider it sacrilege, but if it works and is still a hoot to play, does it really matter?

Sonic wasn't a timeless classic released on one system and nearly untouched for 11 years, and giving american gamers reason to own a Saturn.

Yes.
