Re: Persona 4 Arena
I actually think P4A is a little more difficult than BB due to the speed of the game.. I did well at BB but I'm just now starting to find a niche in this game... Keep in mind I did decent in a supposedly harder fighter like KoF 13 and VF 5 Final Showdown.. They are certainly gimmicks that I would rather do without like 5AAAAA and the easy IKs, but overall I think this game is in between GG and BB for me.. Better than BB but not as good as GG XX, but certainly better than AH 3(I never liked having a double jump and air dash along with a homing system)mm

The ultimate moves (or whatever they are officially called) are ridiculously easy to pull off. Can they be blocked? The person I was playing against did not dodge or block that move a single time when I did it. Are they impossible to block, or was he just button mashing too much?
It's much more difficult to even get the opportunity to do the match ending specials in BB. And many of them are easy to avoid.
Then again, the high damage Arcana attacks are almost as easy to pull off in AH3. But still, easily blockable/avoidable.

I have no idea what you're talking about. The official name is "Persona 4 Arena."
The title on the cover clearly says "P4A". Imagine Nintendo releasing a game with the title "SMG2 Super Mario Galaxy 2". It's just very odd to me.

The Japanese game is "P4U Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena", which is even more bizarre, especially since they printed the title in English instead of Japanese. I guess it's just a Japan thing.

Uhhh... Okay... Great point Zing. Great point.
Anyway, played this with another friend tonight. Turns out the ultimate moves are generally very easily blocked. Guess my other friend just doesn't know how to press/hold back.
Also, learning a bit more of the mechanics. Used throws a little more and used the 3 button dash-type function a little bit.

I can't decide between this and Sleeping Dogs. I don't like BB and GG, that's why I'm hesitating picking this one up.

What don't you like about them? As for P4A, it definitely feels like an ArcSys game to me. Very very quick and tight. But overall it is flashier and the commands are simpler. The stick movements have been reduced to quarter circles as most. That is it. Anyone can jump in and know how to do specials very quickly. That's not to say that they'll instantly be awesome or know any good combos, but the move lists are easy to learn. This game is simplicity done right. And as I said before. That's a good thing.
I still need to look deeper into the mechanics. Not sure exactly what moves can break a guard and what not. I do not learn enough from casual play.

I don't like fighting games with air dashing and the burst system. Street Fighter, King Of Fighters and Mortal Kombat are more my style, I think it has something to do with me liking combos that are more ground based.
I've tried Battle Fantasia, BlazBlue and Guilty Gear, they just didn't do it for me.

^it also clearly says "Persona 4 Arena" on the cover. And every press release from Atlus refers to the game as "Persona 4 Arena." The official title is "Persona 4 Arena."

Re: Persona 4 Arena
I've beaten the story mode with 7 of the characters so far and I am REALLY impressed! If you were a fan of Persona 3 and 4 and just want to continue hearing about the lives of these characters its worth a pick up for that alone. The plot, voice acting, humor, tone, twists, etc are all very reminiscent of P3 & P4. I'm loving it and cant wait to get time to play through it with a few more characters.
And I wouldn't really agree with someone's earlier post of learning one characters = learning them all. With only 13 characters it might have a small cast, but it seems that for the most part its quite varied. I'm really enjoying Elizabeth so far, there are a few more characters I cant wait to explore more thoroughly like Naoto, Kanji, Chie and Yu. I havnt played much online yet, I've been mainly working on Story/Aracde mode and the challenges (I'm at around 270/390 there so far). Havnt tried the Score Attack Mode yet, but it sounds like it'll be pretty brutal!

If you are referring to me, that is not quite what I said. What I DID say is that once you how the move list of one character you can transfer that knowledge to all the characters. That doesn't mean that all the characters will perform the same action when you execute a specific command. It simply means that you don't have to learn lots of character specific commands that only apply to one or a few characters like you do in some other fighters.
Basically, each character is still unique and all have unique moves. But the means to execute those moves is pretty basic. All characters share those basic commands. In a good way.
