Great post and thanks for keeping the SEGA hope and love alive. I'm a huge SEGA fan too and want to believe that one day they will make a big comeback and they'll make the quality games that made us love them in the first place. :)

The Dreamcast was the first system on which they didn't monopolize early access to better APIs and Dev environments for a year or two before rolling them out in the dev kits to everyone else, and they did OK with that, but they did understand the hardware better simply because they designed it. In the publisher market they suddenly had to develop for systems where they didn't have the upper hand, and where the audience wasn't set up to their needs.
I just wanted to highlight this post a little, because it drives me absolutely batty when people chortle about the quality of Mario games not dropping the way Sonic games had for a while.
Mario has almost always had the luxury of being developed on first-party hardware, whereas Sonic's descent, I think we can all agree, really began in that transitional period from first-party IP to third-party IP.

^ That I agree with you pierrot, I've said the same thing before, if not on this thread/forum. Mario games would probably decline too if he went multiplatform with no first party console. Then some sometimes uninformed investors of Nintendo scream go mobile, without realizing that it would tarnish the Nintendo name, mario's, and would probably would suck.

Oh, and SA kind of sucks after Sonic and Tail's adventures in retrospect, and even then it wasn't "OMG the bestest game EVARS!!!!1!!1!!1!1!!!!!1", but it wasn't at least Sonic '06, if it was, the dreamcast would have died far earlier than it eventually did,

Golden Axe Beast Rider was developed by Secret Level, which was eventually acquired by SEGA. I used to work next door to them and would stop by occasionally to avail myself of their pool table. :P The concept art for GA looked great -- it's a shame the game didn't turn out well. I believe they were working on the Iron Man game at the same time and might have been stretched thin.
