Is it possible to just replace the MOV?Hobie-wan wrote:Short answer, the MOV which protects stuff in a basic power strip, wears out. Even if you never have a major spike, the little ups and downs that happen without you noticing will wear them out after a few years.AppleQueso wrote:Interesting. Why is that?Hobie-wan wrote:Just to anyone that does find or track one of the Sega strips down, the surge protection will be no good any more so it will just be a multi-socket.
Entertaining long answer.
Boring long answer.

Re: Setting up a Genesis/CD/32X Combo Question
I gotta say, I was confused as hell the first time I tried to hook the Genesis/CD/32X altogether. Everything was used and I had no instructions, I guess I had forgotten to use that little cable that connects the 32X to the Genesis. So the games were loading but there were no sprites (if you've ever seen the AVGN review of the 32X he does the same thing).
Currently, I don't have the Genesis/CD/32X hooked together because it's too damn messy. Instead of have four Sega Genesises (excessive, I know):
- one plain Model 1
- one Model 1 with the Power Base Converter
- one Model 2 with the Model 2 Sega CD
- one Model 2 with the 32X
You know those Sega "Neptune" hacks that play Genesis and 32X games without the giant mushroom tumor on top? Someone should make a Neptune out of a JVC X'Eye or Sega CDX, thus creating an all-in-one 16-bit Sega console that runs off one power supply. I dunno if it's possible though.

Presumably you could. I'm not sure what it would cost to replace the MOV.AppleQueso wrote: Is it possible to just replace the MOV?

Some guy did that, but in a Sega Saturn case:BoneSnapDeez wrote:You know those Sega "Neptune" hacks that play Genesis and 32X games without the giant mushroom tumor on top? The X'Eye and CDX are way too cramped inside to fit the guts of a 32X unfortunately (especially the latter, there's absolutely no room inside for anything).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Someone should make a Neptune out of a JVC X'Eye or Sega CDX, thus creating an all-in-one 16-bit Sega console that runs off one power supply.
