I wouldn't mind being involved in writing this one up. I know I'm kind of known for PC and indie games around here, but I'm a huge PS2 fan and have hundreds of games for that system in my collection.Flake wrote:Of course, you could also always take a swing at writing it. The thing is, I don't think games like Psychonauts or Beyond Good & Evil were really all that appreciated at time of release for any platform. It's not until years later that they have gained appreciation. I guess they are probably most appreciated now on PC where you can buy digital versions for $9.99. I could see excluding them from the list though.o.pwuaioc wrote:I don't think this one was as PS2-centered as other cross-platforms on your list. While there are plenty of earlier systems I'd be happy to do that for, I actually missed out on the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation as I was having a break from gaming.Flake wrote:Of course, you could also always take a swing at writing it. If such a guide were written anytime soon, I'd naturally suggest JT spearhead the initiative. He's long been a bit of a PS2 guru 'round these parts. And of course dsheinem would be great on that writing team, as another big PS2 enthusiast.
And I nominate me to help too. Haha.

Re: Where's 'Game that defined the PS2'?
My list echos others:
Final Fantasy X
Tekken series
San Andreas, GTA series
Devil May Cry series
Kingdom Hearts series
Yakuza
God of War series
Twisted Metal Black
Jaws Unleashed
Friends: Trivia
Superman Returns
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen Sweet 16
I could go on and on, but what really defines the PS2 isn't the games, it is the console itself. I added some pretty bad games just to show the extent of good and bad games for the console. The mass appeal defines the PS2 for me, and as previously stated, new games are still being made for it.
In short, no game defines the PS2, the console defines itself.

Now? It sounds like we've started to develop a pretty good list. Now it's just a matter of making sure we haven't neglected any important titles and then writing it up.dsheinem wrote:I'd be happy to pitch in. Do we have a set criteria for deciding what qualifies as "defining"?
