4,087,800 - Dunpeal2064 - Stage 5-5 - Saturn

Quite a fun game. The rank gets nasty, but letting the full power purple "P" float offscreen seems to lower it a nice amount.

I'll play on SAT-J as well. Does anyone have a cheapo copy of Gekioh for psx? Even a disc only would be fine, want to be able to play this upstairs on the ps3, preferrably.

I just KNOW I can get better... push a little further... LOL!

I find that it's hard to avoid the pickups once you're powered up, but picking them up severely increases the game's rank. The candles (or whatever) seem to be exempt from this.

Also I find the blue orb weapon (lightning bolt thing) seeks out extra points that the other weapons might miss. Play level one using different weapon types exclusively and you'll see a noticeable difference in end of level scores.

Well, i'm on the board, put 2 runs in and I was just struggling, I couldn't focus on the game, felt like I was having insane deja vu, to the point I was literally distracted.

After the first run it came to me, this is SOOOO much like Daioh - I couldn't place it at first, just driving me nuts. I know I hadn't played this in forever, like 3 years, but it still felt incredibly familiar.

Anyways, great game, sometimes it's fun to play something that isn't terribly complicated, yet still has a ton going on. I do recall from Daioh that you are best to get a weapon and stay with it, as each time you "re-collect" it, it's worth 5K (and it might go up from there? Or maybe i'm thinking 19XX...)

I also recall the strategy to BOMB OFTEN. My first run I had (9) bombs and died w/o using any on that first life. Bombs are plentiful, use them.

Yep there's loads of bombs floating around in there! 5000 points are awarded for weapon pickups after you max out but I'm sure that also adds to the rank. Rank gets pretty harsh on this game...

I've told a lot of the folks in the shmups threads that my boy Aidric (6) is really really good at shmups and has always been an incredibly gifted kinesthetic and visual learner.

He watched me play this and wanted to compete with us.

Here's his 3rd run:

Damn, he is already giving you competition man!

Yeah, I think Warashi is formed from ex DAthena employees, and Shienryu is a sort of remake of Daioh. It explains the psx port Gekioh title too.

The game is definitely a blast. It ozzes Toaplan. When the rank is high, those bullets really start to fly.
