Many people with CP use weighted items to help stop shaking. Depending on how much it has progressed, maybe just wearing arm/wrist weights at this point would help him use a controller?
It would be cool if someone developed weighted controllers with larger buttons and D-pads for people who have less control. I know there is a lot of work being done with Kinect using mouth/tongue recognition.
He should be able to play whatever genre he likes best and then get help in adapting to fit his personal needs. Making him conform to a genre that will suit his disability is probably not the right way to go about having him enjoy games.
