Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
Argh it takes packages forever to get to backwoods of Maine I guess. I should get this tomorrow, no idea if I'll play it immediately though. Maybe in a couple of months.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
This game is just what I needed. I've spent over 4 hours doing side quests, exploring, and I've only encountered 3 story events yet. I just hope there are other modes of transportation later on; the world is just so expansive.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
I got this game and have really been enjoying it. That itself is something rarer and rarer nowadays. Let's see... got it in the mail Saturday and I'm about 24 hours in. It's really been ages since I've played a game straight like that. I couldn't even get past the tutorial in Xenosaga before turning it off and trading it in.
This game is very complicated and there's a ton to do. There are so many sidequests and side objectives constantly in play. It doesn't even force you to use them all. I don't think it even explains some of them outside of the in-game manual section. I'm 24 hours in and I still don't have a grasp of a couple of the systems. It took me about 15 hours to really start catching on, but it didn't feel frustrating or overwhelming. You just pick it up as you go.
I like teleporting around and adjusting time at will. I think it feels very natural in this game. It allows you to get more done with your time and feel more accomplished when you turn it off. I also like that weak enemies don't bother me unless I attack them. It makes going through old areas so much more peaceful and quick. The developers really had an unusual respect for the player's time.
I like getting EXP for finding new areas. The EXP that sidequests and exploring gets you eliminates any need for normal grinding. I'm a little overpowered right now because I've been doing all the sidequests. From now on I'm going to hold off on all those except the time sensitive ones. Luckily the game tells you which are.
The characters don't feel nearly as "canned" as usual. The story is actually pretty interesting for a video game. It's of course a little cheesy, but in a satisfying kind of way. I'm genuinely interested to see where it's going.
Xenoblade Chronicles is certainly the best RPG I've played in 6 or 7 years. I haven't played many, but I really do think this game is really good. To me, this game feels like it's where I thought JRPGs were going to go when I was a kid playing the PSone era stuff.
I really dig this title screen. It's pretty reserved and really sets the mood. It kinda sold me on the game-

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
You can teleport to any landmark you have visited from the start of the game. Press "minus" (on the classic controller) to bring up the local map, and select "area map" in the menu to bring up a selection of other areas. You can also adjust the time at will. Just FYI in case you didn't know. The game takes a while to tell you these things.foxhound1022 wrote:This game is just what I needed. Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
I wonder what the sales numbers are? Definitely hope it's doing pretty well.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
Does this contain the original Japanese audio like the European release? I haven't opened my copy yet. Still working on Tales of Graces f. Xenoblade is next up on the console RPG list.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
all this gushing talk about how great this game is has me regretting not going ahead and getting it myself.
It's already shot up to $80+ used and I don't see it available anywhere besides gamestop.
...it'll still be available in a few months right?

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
Been trying to find out if the Japanese audio is there via reviews. None of the reviews even mention it. :/ Why the heck not?
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
I am wishing I ordered from GS and got the free art book and - well - had the game by now. It shipped Friday, but tax and shipping were about $9 total, I won't get an art book, and the game is taking its sweet time to get here...it is scheduled to arrive next Monday
That's what i get for avoiding evil Gamestop to go with evil Nintendo instead.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles
Dang, I'm glad I went with GS on the fly then. I got it like 2-3 days after the shipping email went out.
It's in there. There's not like, FULL subtitles though. So I have no idea what the battle banter is, but it's not a big deal to me (reminds me of plenty of PSX JRPG's that had that, haha). Other than that, it's great and I plan to play it this way myself, even if the British seems pretty good too.
To be honest I'm sure others have noticed this, but there's even European spellings in the text, armour, learnt, things like that. I have a feeling NoA was completely lazy as crap and literally just did nothing to the European release, just making sure it plays on NA Wii's. That's what it looks like to me. I don't really care, but wow.
On top of the dual audio option though there sure is a lot of options and flexibility in general. Good stuff.
YES! DUAL AUDIO CONFIRMEDZenErik wrote:Been trying to find out if the Japanese audio is there via reviews. None of the reviews even mention it. :/ Why the heck not?
