If you have the "leave it alone if it was already great" mentality, then why not apply it to RoboCop? Yeah, the sequels stunk to high heaven, but the original is an 80s masterpiece.
When the news came out about a ROBOCOP remake, my knee-jerk reaction was "Oh god, why? Who is directing" When the answer was Aronofsky, I said "Oh, that could be very interesting". I think he would have taken it to a dark place, which works for ROBOCOP, but that's just my speculation. I am still a huge ROBOCOP fan (and a Verhoeven fan in general) and own 3 copies of it.
FWIW, the guy who succeeded Aronofsky is much better for Robocop. Look up Elite Squad 2 on Netflix.

Starship Troopers is really an astonishing movie. If it weren't for the CGI effects you could argue it was made in the 70s.

It sort of celebrates that ultra violence, nonsensical plot lines, and cheese, that you gotta love in some Sci Fi.

Now ... it's a terrible movie. No doubt. But I LOVE it.

I'd argue the Robocop reboot sounds more useless than the Total Recall one. The director has expressed being more interested about how a man becomes a machine ... even though we've already seen a bunch of movies on the subject :\ Robocop is about takin' down scumbags and revenging his former life. But I guess we'll see. I'll certainly give it a shot ... but I'd rather prefer if it didn't go all Dark Knight about it.

Also, Total Recall has Cranston ... so it can't be all bad.

Verhoeven isn't 100% gold, though. Hollow Man was pretty bad. Which is surprising, because it's got Kevin Bacon.

Oh man, he did Hollow Man? Yeah that one was just bad/bad, not awesomely bad like Starship Troopers.

Plus there are so many awesome similarities between Troopers, Robocop, and Total Recall. Propaganda commercials in all of them and things like that, pretty funny.

Those propaganda commercials are the best.

Colin looks a lot like Joey Tribianni from Friends in the trailer, which I think is great. Joey asking a three tittied (sorry to be crass) mutant "How you doin'?" would allow me to die a happy man.

Plus STARSHIP TROOPERS has boobs.

It's a polarizing movie, and if you don't get it for what it is (sci-fi stupidity) you won't like it. It's a rehash of every sci-fi cliche ever, and turned up to 11. It's the sci-fi equivalent of CON AIR; if you aren't laughing your ass off, you're missing the point.

As far as REBOOTCOP, the director is all kinds of wrong about the story. It isn't just "Murphy dies, a few seconds of transposition, and we see Robocop". Some of the funniest parts of Robocop happen when Robocop is being built.

"You're going to be one bad Motherfucker!" is my second favorite line in the movie. You also have the scene where the drunk but cute scientist kisses Robocop then falls over.

I could care less how Robocop was built. No need to try and bring reality and science into a movie about a Robot Cop who shoots rapists in the nut sack and then gives a would be rape victim the advice of seeking professional help.

My answer to this question is yes. I think the remake for TR looks great. I'm a big fan of Colin after In Brughes (sp?). I hope they make the ambiguity of what is real more of a thing then the original movie did. I'm not a huge fan of Jessica Biel, hopefully she doesn't bring down the movie.

Whoa Mama. I can see the "not the best actress" angle, but she is actually pretty great. Pretty aside, she has some decent chops (acting chops). Colin does as well, but years ago I made a snap decision that "I don't like this guy", and he keeps proving me right that he's a douche nozzle. Astounding actor though.

One of my friends said of the new TOTAL RECALL that "it's Saved By The Biel", so this could be the movie that makes you appreciate her for more than her assets. Time will tell.

I dunno. I love sequels and plenty of reboots, but reboots are and have been the "it" in Hollywood for far too long. They are a sure thing. Fuck, even Kevin Smith is planning a Broadway reboot of Clerks. And I can't forget seeing the trailer for the new spider-man and thinking "oh yeah, I totally forgot this hasn't already been released". It's depressing when I can't get psyched about a superhero movie.

I'm going to take a walk and kick around an empty soda can for an hour or two with my hands in my pockets while moping. Thank God 4/13 is almost around the corner.

This is incredibly shallow, but I'm not a fan of her because I don't find her attractive, especially as a leading lady. I'm sure she'll be fine (no pun intended.)

I like you lots, but you may need an eye exam.

But to each his own. Plenty of my friends think Christina Ricci is flat out ugly. If I was single and Biel even approached me, I'm fairly certain my jaw would drop. But as always, beauty is in the eye of the butt holder.

But as Curtis Payne would say, "I'd tay dat ay up".
