So I've been doing some searching around and reading some stuff on your board.

From what I can tell (keeping to info close as possible to your issue) it has to do with your north bridge.

Your mobo apparently has rampant issues with lots of users and their video cards... more specifically it is generally surrounding ATI video cards. From what I can read out of all the newb mumbo jumbo, mixed with techy talk, their is a timing issue in the RAM and the northbridge is just blocking out the video card making it look like there is no card at all.

Since there is no onboard video the BIOS immediately haults and won't POST because well... there's no freakin' display device. I'm not sure what other video card's you've tested, but see if you can get your hands on a geforce without GDDR3 on it. And see if it posts then.

$5 says bad caps have killed the mobo. I noticed similar symptoms on a 478 Gigabyte board. Look for bulges, leaks on any of the caps.

Well I did install a heatsink on the northbridge but then took it off because it was a piece of shit. I used this opportunity to apply arctic silver 5 on the default heatsink/fan, which I assume did a better job than the gunk that it originally used. I wonder if I damage the northbridge during this process.

I'm not getting another video card. My ATI is fine. And I had a 7600GT before that, and like I said, I even had a PCI card I tried. All give the same result.

I just wanna say I nabbed a machine for $65 just now, to use while I'm on this break from my busted one. 2.0ghz celeron, 256MB DDR (I just doubled it to 512 at home), 40GB, intel graphics chipset. Unfortunately, he said it had AGP, but when I checked in the store, we found it it only has PCI slots. It was ganna be fantastic for my 6200 geforce agp, but oh well. Also, this machine has so far taken to Ubuntu 7.10 extremely well. Ubuntu must love intel graphics, because the os is running so smooth right off the bat, with GUI effects automatically on. Good deal.
