Re: Saturn S-video cable
Generic ones it seems, I would imagine more for 1st party ones. At least the racket store is stocked again, even at $20+ I finally snagged one (eBay's prices are ridiculous).

thank god for rancor he found me a cable in japan for 1300 yen / ~$16 he's going to include it in my shipment of saturn imports

Re: Saturn S-video cable
Man, I just checked the prices on eBay for these.... I can't believe how much they are going for. Over 50 dollars on eBay? Even here they are going for 25 dollars. I'm so glad I got one a couple of years ago for 5 dollars
Which is kinda weird when you see older system's S-Video go for only 5 bucks.

Re: Saturn S-video cable
My s-video cables from the racket store just came in. My goodness, the picture quality is great - I'm playing on a LCD, I can't imagine how great this would look on a CRT.

IT looks Amazing when a Saturn is hooked up via Svid to a good CRT TV. I just love how my 2D fighters look on my set up!
Re: Saturn S-video cable
Just ordered myself an svid for saturn from the racket store, can't wait to see the improvements.

Re: Saturn S-video cable

Does the sega saturn have a magical ability to raise prices for anything and everything sega saturn related? It's getting sort of absurd. I'm not sure who's paying the current prices, but I know it's not me.
I predict this bubble's gotta pop sometime.

Shit, I paid the premium $23 at the store because there are no other options. What surprises me though, is that the price of the cable at store went up another $3 since last week :/

I was a bit surprised at first myself, however after thinking about it, I'd speculate several reasons as to the current price.
First, like I said previously, the 10 pin mini-din needed to make an off brand cable is all but non existent, and pricy if you can even find them. It could easily cost me close to $20 to make an off-brand s-video cable, that's not including labor or markup.
The Saturn was not nearly as popular in the states as it was in Japan, and S-video wouldn't really be a popular choice for our Japanese friends; their TV's had SCART inputs and thus could utilize the beautiful RGB the saturn outputs. The saturn natively outputs R,G,B, and composite sync; you don't even need a sync separator to strip the sync signal from the composite video. Our friends in the UK have SCART too, meaning that the only place that s-video was basically the best option was the USA (given our lack of a standardized 15khz RGB input on any TV) where the console was essentially a failed project from the get go.
tl;dr, $25 is actually a fair price for one of these. $50 is not IMO. However, it's super cheap to just add an s-video jack to the back of the saturn like I previously described in this thread.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
