Xenoblade Chronicles is AMAZING. If you feel disappointed by the JRPG genre this game will restore your faith in it. Yes it has tons of sidequests and it's huuuuuuuuuuuuuge (it took me almost 80 hours to beat with me doing only about half of the quests and none of the
Colony 6 rebuilding side quest.
(veeeeeeeeeeery small spoiler in there)

Game is AMAZING. Don't lose your chance to buy it.

By the way guys, Xenoblade sold out in Europe and cause of the very high demand Nintendo reprint it, but I am afraid NoA might be a dick about since we've already seen it wasn't willing to risk on Xenoblade till it saw it can be a success in western markets (NoE, just for this game, I forgive all your since during the SNES era)

It tells you exactly where to go to move the plot along, it even has an arrow pointing you in the right direction. However, theres lots of sidequests and exploring to do off the beaten track, so if you fancy having a look about thats good too.

I'm only about 12 hours in myself, but the world already seems huge. The game looks to be about 50 hours long if you completely ignore sidequests, and double or triple that easily if you don't, so if you're not up for the long haul you won't like this one. Tbh, the game it most reminds me of is Final Fantasy XII, which amuses me slightly because so many people are calling xenoblade 'the next evolution of RPGs', yet many of those same people piled scorn on FFXII for daring to be a bit different.

I haven't played Last Story, and at the moment, I doubt many people will have on this forum. The games not out until tomorrow in Europe, so you'll need to find someone who's played the japanese version.
It does have simiaritys to final fantasy 12 like the fighting style but honestly xenoblade takes the fighting to a totally different level and gameplay and story wise xenoblade is far better for me atleast

Don't believe the hype on Xenoblade. It's a good game, but not that good. People talk about it like it's a masterpiece of the genre that transcends every thing else out there. It is getting talked about like the holy grail only because of the overall sad state of the jrpg genre right now.

Right place, right time

It has a ton of flaws I touched on in the Games Beaten thread and it can be rather boring and tedious at times with all the stupid side quests, clunky inventory, pointless gem crafting system, and a good but vastly overrated combat system.

If I've learned one thing in my 33 years, few things live up to the hype.

It does have a really good story and soundtrack though. So there's that

and yeah, the reversible cover art is classy, as is the dual language option.

I can't really see these as valid complaints being that both are entirely optional.

These I can agree with though. Inventory management is a bit of a pain and the combat is pretty boring. I haven't really seen the combat talked up much so I wouldn't say it's over-rated, just kind of boring and didn't grab me at all. Better than FF XII at least. If the combat was classic turn-based I probably wouldn't have ended up dropping it.

The Last Story just ugh. Seriously the worst JRPG I've played this gen.

I normally do not agree with the masses but im about 58 hours in on this game and just got to the bionis arm and Im really very blown away i have gotten very attached to the characters except ryne who is an irritating bastard but i still would feel sad if he died.

Really this is better then final fantasy 13-or 13-2 and better then final fantasy 12 and i gotta say on my top list of rpg game's. Also even though there have been game before similar to the fighting style like final fantasy 12 for example it goes way past any of them and make for a unique and challenging play-though

So Add unique fighting system, Huge open world unlike any other wii game I have seen (skyrim for the wii) A lush beatiful and vast evnivorments, a wounderful and deep story and a memorable cast of ahracters and I say we have ourselves An award winning game that deserrves every bit of hype it get's.

Is it the be all end all to rpg's no that's panzer dragoon saga but it sure as hell give's any Rpg of the last few year a run for it's money :D

I still need to finish it myself, but I'm not going to say it's overhyped, because I never saw the ultra hype. I don't keep up with the "masses" or whatever anymore, but either way who cares? I'm not going to let that ruin a game for me or anything. Just the vibe I get from some in this thread off and on. But I guess if people just went in expecting miracles and were underwhelmed, that's legit. But that's now how I approached the game or many thesedays. It's pretty solid and that's that for me.

I like how Xenoblade demands more button pushing than FFXII, but FFXII had the Gambit system. If we took both games and fused their gameplay together, it'd be pretty amazing to me.

For me it has nothing on the other Xeno's (and I was never expecting that either), which all have tons of complaints and sold poorly too. Oh well! Heh. It's just funny how accessible Xenoblade seems in comparison to Xenosaga. I'm willing to bet way more people out there who jumped right into Xenoblade still haven't touched Xenosaga. But it's just one of those things I can't really argue much over anymore, accepted I'm in the minority about the other games... just wish there was more people out there who made it to Xenosaga III, lol.

FF XII: The Game That Plays Itself

Seriously, worst battle system ever.

Someday... SOMEDAY! I've been beefing up my PS2 collection recently and have Xenosaga I and III. Will definitely play them.

clunky inventory
Ok so yes I can agree that the inventory can get confusing with equiping stiff but other then that I was not bothered.
stupid side quests
As for dumb sidequest? Well there not the most fun I have seen for sure and they are mostly just killing things or gathering item's so yes it is not really innovative in anyway way but it is by no mean's dumb. This has been used in many game's and One thing nice about it is that if you accept quest you gain affinity with whoever is next to you which is very nice. (those of you who don't know affinity effect lot's of factor like being able to share each others attributes and such)

Also Sometime when you accept quest you may have already compleated them from previously finding items so suddenly your talking to someone then boom you just got a ton of money and experience. :) But I do see your point tho. It can get annoying
Pointless gem crafting and overated battle system
Image
This I could not dissagree with you more!? Have you actually played the whole game and crafted gem's? It is of extream importance. You can make your characters ten times stronger, higher hit points, Resistance to status ailments everything and without having to spend any money.

All you do is take your two characters that have good affinity and use the free materials you have collected and boom you get great gems. You can actually mix and match anything hp, power, ether, Whatever and mix them together for a great gem.

You can put them in your weapon or gloves, shoes, armor everywhere. Also depending on how connected your characters are you choose determines how strong the gems become and I have made some super bad ass gems. It's really not only innovative but and must for this game and literally will save your ass and make you extra badass!.

I can understand some of your other statements but on this one it does not really make any sense to me.
