Getting better, I can consistently get to the 3rd board now but still need more practice.

On the first screen I keep getting stuck on the platform just below the second hammer, just to the right of the 2 ladders. Sometimes I'm there for ages waiting for a chance to get to one of them, I'm sure there are some smaller gaps that are viable but I've not found them yet.

Third board? Do you mean third screen? That SHOULD be the second time on the barrel stage.

It should go:

L1. Barrel Stage -> Rivet Board
L2. Barrel Stage -> Elevator Screen -> Rivet Board
L3. Barrel Stage -> Pie Factory -> Elevator Screen -> Rivet Board
L4. Barrel Stage -> Pie Factory -> Barrel Stage -> Elevator Screen -> Rivet Board
L5. Barrel Stage -> Pie Factory -> Barrel Stage -> Elevator Screen -> Barrel Stage -> Rivet Board

And the L5 order repeats until the kill screen.

If you're going the L3 route immediately, that means that you have the Japanese ROM for the game.

Just making sure.

And yeah, it's hard as hell. I'm point-grabbing and not just running straight through now, and it's even tougher.

Very nice! I still haven't made it past the first Pie Factory. It is, to me, the equivalent of Mario's Hideout in DK Junior.

Basically what that means is that I'm gonna have to download the Japanese ROM and play through it enough to learn how to get through.

Ok silly question -- does that "meters" screen have anything to do with the game? I always take it as a sort of a window dressing. It was even used in the GB port many years ago.

These days, How High Can You Get? can mean something completely different
