Is this a bad time to admit that I have only played the first, and I wasn't a big fan of it? Something about the series just never clicked with me.

I do still like SF64 though. Barring the cheesy dialogue, it was an excellent twist on an excellent game. More stuff was put in, and the game itself just looks amazing. Now if only Dinosaur Planet hadn't... oh wait...

That may be so, but considering my own opinion of the original game, I feel you might think differently if you ever gave SF64 a shot.

Maybe not of course, because the gameplay really isn't all that different between the two, but you never know.

it's ok Ack. Star Fox is not for everybody. I can tell you all the things i like about the game, but i don't expect you to like it just because i do. but i do like the first one better than the 64 version and that is coming from a person who loves the N64.

Star Fox showed us you only need tens of polygons on screen to be awesome.

I remember always doing the second route as a kid, just to hear Venom Base 2.
I like route 2 the best simply because of this.

That level and fight was so trippy.

If that boss were in Starfox 64 it would be preceded by some badly voiced, badly written dialog

"Ha ha ha, prepare to be destroyed Starfox. You'll never leave here alive. Ha ha ha"

Slippy - "Oh yeah, we'll show you!"

Peppy - "Be careful Fox, watch out for its attacks!"

Falco - "What the heck is this thing?"

I don't know, I find that the cheesy/silly voice acting in 64 just has a lot of charm. I don't even know if I'd say the acting is bad even, it seems to suit the whole mood they were going for in that game.

SF1 did have way better music though and really is at least every bit as good a game as 64, if not better. But I still love 64 soooooo much, even with its flaws.

Plus, 64 is still always going to be lightyears better than every single game that came after it.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention; Star Fox is what got me into retro gaming. I was grounded and had my consoles taken away, and when they were given back, my parents couldn't find my 360. Because of that, I went back to playing the Wii. Not too long before switching from Wii to 360, I had downloaded F-Zero X and Star Fox 64, but didn't play them that much. FZX was pretty good, but Star Fox 64 was so great I kept playing it even after my parents found the 360. I searched the internet for a sequel, and all I found was a Zelda clone, a meh 3rd party game, and a crappy DS game. Then I checked for a prequel, and found out about SF. I figured "Eh, if I can find an SNES and the cart for under the price for a modern game, I'd probably be able to get about as much fun out of it from the looks of it." I found a console sold with the cart, Spawn, a controller, and all the wires for $40; plus, the only part that was yellowed was the controller port. SF drew me in well enough on its own, but Spawn showed me that mediocre 2D games are not only playable, but fun, as opposed to mediocre 3D games that are full of camera glitches, atrocious voice acting, ugly polygons, and fetch quests galore. The overall quality of the age impressed me, and I began getting more and more SNES carts off of eBay, eventually quitting modern gaming altogether.
