Basically how I feel about the platforms at this point. The 360 had a decent start but I feel the PlayStation has much more variety and quality in it's exclusives. I basically play all multi-platform games on PC given the chance though.

This generation has given birth to most of my favorite games of all time to be honest. In fact, modern gaming has in the last year or two taken up 90% of my gaming time, which certainly wasn't true a few years ago. I know that's not the case for everybody, but to call this generation just a never-ending stream of bro-gamer FPS games is completely wrong.

There are plenty of great games. You just have to look for them, instead of depending on Gamestop in-store ads.

Other than that I try to expand my boundaries in retro gaming (I'm a terribad gamer, so playing retro games is very frustrating due to difficulty, but they're still fun) and modern gaming. Though I have to pick up a PS3 this year because my 360 isn't doing me too much good. Hell if it wasn't a hand me down I never would've bought one.
I say play what you want, and if you run into some bullshit (DLC and online passes anyone?), simply turn 45 degrees and keep walking.

One of my qualms with this generation of gaming is that the games that sell the most are online-based FPSes, therefore there is an over-abundance of these games out there. I hate to say I am little biased towards these games. They often overshadow all of the other quality games due their sheer popularity, causing them not to get the sales they deserve (Rayman Origins for example). Not a problem if you're into FPSes, I guess, but I personally have grown tired of them.
I also am starting to hate the increasing use of DLC, online passes, and more lately - HD ports. I often feel that DLC is intended to squeeze a bit more money from the consumers by making them feel like the game is incomplete if they don't pay for the icing on the cake. Some games deserve HD ports, like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus (Colossus had some framerate issues) but for others that's not always the case.
There's a lot of crap this gen. I don't like DLC, and I don't like online unless it's Star Wars Battlefront, and I don't like the big-budget FPS thing. But there's a lot of crap every gen and there are some truly great modern games. I don't like where the industry is heading, but more design-oriented developers are putting out incredible stuff.

That's how I do things. Before 2008 or 9, 360 was the system to own this gen, but PS3 is so much better these days. And PS3 has the advantage of not having so many of it's great games also available on PC (less redundant).

Exactly. And as a PC gamer with somewhat decent hardware (and about to buy a rig with some real muscle) I appreciate Sony coming out with the $599 but still taking a loss beast of a machine they did. Especially this late in the game, that extra oomph the PS3 has is becoming pretty damn noticeable on exclusive games.

you admit to not really spending much if any time playing games from this gen, make blanket and untrue statements about FPSs, multiplayer, leaderboards, etc., essentialize those who grew up playing games during whatever "console wars" you might be referring to, and generally come across as old man "get off my lawn you kids!"
As someone who has been playing games since the 2600 days, I'm of the opinion that there's never been a better time to be a gamer than this generation.
