Fail. No mention of Arkham City or Portal 2? And MW3 as worst? There are far, far worse games that have come out this year than MW3 (assuming MW3 sucks, which it doesn't.) You want worst of 2011? Try Duke Nukem Forever or Thor.ATARI800XLfan wrote:Best: Sonic Generations, Rayman Origins, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom.

Maybe they haven't played those. The thread title is "What are your picks"BoringSupreez wrote:Fail. No mention of Arkham City or Portal 2? And MW3 as worst? I could be a jerk and say that Deus Ex HR or Super Mario 3D Land are my worst picks for 2011 just because I hated the first DE and don't care for Mario games. Unless I'd played the recent iterations it wouldn't be fair to do so though. So other than not having a desire to play them, I have no opinion.

Duke Nukem went well considering the development life cycle hell it went threw, MW3 is over hyped, I had to force myself to play all the way through it. I personally enjoyed Duke and can't wait for the next one. Have never played portal 2 all the way threw though I would list Skyrim as best also, finally gave me a good reason to push my computer again. Also forgot Battle Field 3 in my best list as well.BoringSupreez wrote:Fail. No mention of Arkham City or Portal 2? And MW3 as worst? I meant no mention of it in ATARI800XLfan's post, not in the thread as a whole.o.pwuaioc wrote:Fail. Portal 2 was mentioned.

How can you choose best and worst unless you played them all, and who has time to play all the games from a year to give a solid opinion on best and worst?

YOUR picks. Of what YOU've played.Hazerd wrote:How can you choose best and worst unless you played them all, and who has time to play all the games from a year to give a solid opinion on best and worst?
So yeah, please no slagging or praising titles you haven't put some reasonable play time into...

Pokemon Black & White, Ghost Trick, Inazuma Eleven, Solatorobo, Okamiden, Kirby: Mass Attack and Prof Layton 4 all came to DS this year that are worth noting, off the top of my head.dsheinem wrote:I think there was a Zelda game and a Kirby game released for the Wii this year. Were there any new DS or PSP games this year that weren't ports of some sort? I remember Parasite Eve 3 coming out and....that's about it.
The Wii list was much worse though. Skyward Sword, Kirby, Xenoblade, the other Kirby (Epic Yarn didn't reach Europe til February). Not sure if there was anything else especially of note. There's Fortune Street in the US, but thats not out til January here.
3DS had some games of note too, even if it had a slow year.
Anyhow, I didn't play many new games this year, especially seeing as most of the noteworthy ones came when I was skint towards the summer and end of the year, but Skyward Sword, Ghost Trick and Pokemon White are definitely up there.

Based on what I've actually played, the best of the year for me in specific order is:
1. Batman Arkham City - The perfect Batman game
2. The Dishwasher Vampire Smile - The perfect 2D version of Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden games. It's actually more fun and polished than the NG games. Sorry Team Ninja
3. Portal 2 - Perfect sequel to a perfect puzzle game. Possibly some of the funniest dialog I've heard in a game
4. Beyond Good and Evil HD tied with the Ico/SOTC Collection - Classics! In HD!
5. Outland - Good mix of old school Prince of Persia platforming and Ikaruga's polarity, bullet hell gameplay
Good games that could have been better:
Catherine
Alice Madness Returns
Disappointments
Shadows of the Damned - Juvenile, misogynistic and super shallow gameplay. So much wasted potential given the caliber of talent that worked on this game. Though I remain optimistic about Lollipop Chainsaw due to my love of beat'em ups and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
WWE'12 - Is Yukes really improving this franchise at all? New developer please
Bastion - I only played the demo, and it sucked
I'm tempted to add Zelda: Skyward Sword to my list of disappointments, but after I had written off the game as crap, a friend convinced me to stick with it. Maybe I'll warm up to it. Though so far, I consider Twilight Princess on the Gamecube to be a much, much better game
Games I will be playing over the holidays
Rayman Origins - I'm a Michel Ancel fan
Super Mario 3D Land - I'm expecting a 3DS for Christmas and I like platformers
Starfox 64 3D - The original is one of my all time favorite games
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - I never really got into Oblivion, so I don't know about this one, but I might as well try it given the IMMENSE hype it's getting
