I still haven't purchased a console this gen. I borrowed some from friends, and play current-gen games on PC, but that's it.

The consoles are looking dated compared to a mid-range PC now. It's time for an upgrade. However, we're hitting the point where it doesn't make much sense to make graphics much better than they are (on PC). Not because we can't, but because financially it doesn't make much sense.

I'm ready for the next round of consoles.

I'm torn on the matter, I just recently got a Wii again for the sole purpose of being able to play skyward sword and "light gun" games. But there are other games for the wii that I would like to get and when the Wii U comes out maybe it will be easier to get the old wii games for a good price. But on the other hand I wish they would make more decent games for the wii instead of me having to save up for a Wii U already. (even when it does come out it will probably be at least a couple of years before I bother getting one.) I just got rid of my 360 and I don't really care about that but I would like to get a ps3.
My real problem with it is that I'm already so behind that it seems like all of this current gen stuff just came out when it has already been a few years. I am really more of a retro gamer anyway but there are some games I would like to be able to experience like house of the dead 4 if they ever port it (i wish they would for the wii even if the graphics would need to be downgraded, I honestly wouldn't care) and the last guardian and the most recent god of war games for ps3 for example.

Consoles have always been way behind PCs since the 90s after VGA level graphics cards and Sound Blasters became standard. Not trying to start a PC versus console debate, just saying.

I don't think a lot of people are ready for new consoles either. The economy is in the toilet and console piracy is worse than ever. Consoles are generally sold at a loss but with people pirating the games, buying so much used, and companies doing all of the nickel and dimeing with DLC, is the average gamer going to be ready to be ready to plunk down a bunch of money on a new console and have to worry about whether their old stuff works on the new system? Maybe I'm overestimating their desire to play the older though.

I agree. Now is not a good time, plus besides the best looking games usually came out after the 5 year mark, look at the PS2 and the Home-brews for the Dreamcast. Hell even look at the Atari 2600. People see the full power and get the most out of consoles after 5 years. I would not mind this generations lasting 10 years. That is why I prefer consoles over PC. I can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars every few years on upgrading.

I'm eager to see what MS and Sony have to offer, and I'll decide if I'm "ready" once they've announced specs and dates. I've already decided that I don't plan to buy the Wii-U at launch (or maybe ever) as for all intents and purposes it seems to be another underpowered console based around a gimmick...

Also, we're talking like a new gen would be starting soon, but realistically we're looking at late 2012 or 2013 for the next gn to even get started...that's a long time for the current gen to still be current.

Then again Microsoft and 343 industries have already said that Halo 5 and 6 will be on the Xbox 360 so....

Well...I agree. I still think there is much more that should be released before Microsoft or Sony introduce a new console.
