Non-HD sets don't need to "clean up" the image for component. Component will look better in any given resolution, even 480i simply because of the color separation and greater allotted bandwidth. Maybe your TV just sucks at component. It is a possibility. And like I said, your Monster cables might suck, too. After all, they are Monster.

So looks like I will keep a set of those components for my living room, and keep the game room s-video and all will be right in the gaming world.
Looks great! In case you missed my edit, the CRT as an SD tube is not a total disappointment. All the Retro console lightguns including NES ROB Robot should work fine! :D

EDIT In case you have an ED CRT
Say, what happens to your Component connected 480i CRT when you do enable 480p mode in a PS2 game? Does the Toshiba CRT still display a pic converted with the Component input? Any improvement over non 480p mode?

That's a very good point.

It could offcourse be that some tv´s have really great s-video imaging process conversion and a bad component imaging process conversion.
Anyway, for the best result get the official ps2/ps3 component cables on your ps2.
I only ever connect my ps2 with 2 cables
-official PS1 RGB SCART Cable
-official PS2/PS3 Component Cable
I have to say that for 480i games, go with official PS1 RGB SCART Cable. It looks a little bit better/sharper.
For 480p you can only do that with component cables

Also there´s this program GSM with which you can force alot of games into 480p even when the damn designers did not put the 480p option in! Check the thread in my sig. It´s worth investigating and finding out which of your beloved games work in 480p, that is really exciting.

While switching back and forth between inputs I didnt take too much notice without looking though the camera, so I didnt take note of the colors. I updated my post with the HD tv testing, and I honestly think the s-video looks much better, not in terms of colors, but sharpness and clarity.
Hate to say I told ya
