Look. If the game was completely free, they would just come right out and tell you that it's free.
DC Universe is not free. It is free to play. There is a difference.
That's why I prefer to call these games what they are, pay to win. Pay to win is a much more accurate way to say it. The more you pay, the more you win. That's exactly how the games are designed to work. Cut the bullshit and just be honest.
Anyone playing DC Universe?

but... it is free. It costs you nothing to download, and you can play it for free. Yes there's optional shit you can buy for it, but it's optional. It's a free experience for those that want it for free. Like me.

Don't forget snow IS white too...
...unless someone peed on it.
The funny thing is that I can see both sides of the argument. I think what Noise is saying is that he views the game as a demo or something to spend a small amount of time on, and what Izzy is saying is that you can't complete it unless you pay. So you both are right and snow is white.
Here is some advise to help the debate: Don't eat yellow snow unless you pay for it.
That snow really tied the room, or this thread, together too.

Re: Anyone playing DC Universe?
Well this is mostly true. It is technically free to play the game. But after a weeks (or even days) you'll come to the realization that you'll need to constantly pony up money to stay competitive or even get by. It becomes a de facto subscription, really. This is why I gave up Maple Story after a short while.noiseredux wrote:but... it is free. It costs you nothing to download, and you can play it for free. Yeah that's kind of how I see it. I don't plan on spending any cash on DCUO. It's fun for what it is currently. Once I get bored (which I admit is already happening) I just stop, and uninstall.
The only thing I've spent on this game is free time, and bandwidth to download it. The installer is 18 gigs!! Yikes!

Thank God for all the people who are completely incapable of looking at anything in a positive light. It's that manner of nit-picking everything and snubbing noses at people who are giving us five of their twelve solid gold bars because they didn't give us ALL of their solid gold bars that makes all of us look so mature and sophisticated.
Here's the truth: You can have plenty of fun with this game, and most other "Pay-To-Win" (My God, I can't believe how negative the gaming community is...), without ever spending a damn dime. Yes, your experience can be BETTER if you pay, but that doesn't automatically make the non-paying experience shit. Please understand this.
Here's another truth: Free-to-Play is not necessarily more expensive than your standard $40-60 game - because your standard $40-60 game has just as much microtransaction bullshit as Free-To-Play games do. Whether it's costumes and characters, map packs and scenarios, or even cheat codes and debug menus, just about every game that comes out this day and age will have tons of DLC - and what's more, you'll need it if you want to enjoy the game in a lot of cases. Want to play COD online? Well, you better pony up $15 when the next map pack with 1 great stage + 4 fillers comes out, because everyone is going to be playing that 1 map and you'll be stuck in the non-DLC ghettos.
I never thought I would have to seriously say "The game is free: Deal with it" because I thought I would never live in a world where admission to a game was free and people would cry foul. I mean, it's free. I don't see how they could bend over backwards for you ANY MORE THAN THEY ALREADY ARE.
I weep for humanity.

Not gonna join in on the Free to Play/Pay to Win discussion, but here's my experience with the game:

I got to level 30 in less than a week's time (and I have a dayjob and a four month old baby, so I don't really have more than a couple of hours gaming time in a day, which should tell you how not grind-y the game is).
I never spent a single cent on the game, and I've only encountered the long login queue once (had to wait 5-10 mins to get in). The server downtimes can be annoying, though. It happens daily on the PC servers.
I'm not underpowered either. I can solo all the PVE quests, I can pull my own weight on raids, and had no need for the extra wallet that subscription gives you, the equips that you gain from drops are enough for PVE, and the PVP equips just need you to run through instances and alerts to earn them.
I'm actually going to uninstall the game now, not because I feel that I need to pay before I can enjoy the game more, but because the game no longer has anything to offer me, as I don't think the subscription will give me something to add to the experience (I'm actually wondering why the subscription is worth it at all). I've actually spent the last game session just running around in that costume and trying to ask male players for a kiss, and to accompany me to "the secret room." Most players get the joke or ignore me, except for that one time when a player threatened to report me to the mods for sexual harassment.
