The quadrants tell you what number controller it is. I haven't seen any games which do anything with the lights.Anthony817 wrote: Instead of having a screen, the 360 has 4 quadrants of light that can tell you various things when something happens in a game, but its not utilized as much as the screen on the DC controller was for game specific info.

@Hobie-wan, I read it in a magazine years ago, I also haven't seen many games use it, but they do from time to time.

^ That is generally my contention with Microsoft's arrival into the gaming market. I mean, Sony proved that a huge, fat, hulking corporation could successfully market a console in strides, but did so by introducing something artistically and technologically novel. Whereas Microsoft just landed on the market, with a plagiaristic marketing campaign (they nicked that banned one from Spaced, who also had it nicked by Levi's) and console experience that was, essentially, just a PC in a box. I'm not claiming that this approach is inherently wrong, but unlike Sony, Microsoft just stuck the Xbox on the market like a big, fat bull and pumped billions upon lost billions into it 'til the brand was established, it wasn't done with any finesse, is my point in a really roundabout way. Really, in hindsight, the oXbox's existence was just one drawn-out prelude to the 360.

Regardless of how Microsoft came into the market. I'm loving my oXbox.
It would've been neat to get DC compatibility. Then I wouldn't be stuck with those terrible controllers.

Yeah, for awhile I thought there was a good DC emulator for the original Xbox for some reason and I was excited since I figured the button mapping would be nearly the same, but with better Xbox controllers... guess not though.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Regardless of how Microsoft came into the market. The Dreamcast has a 128 bit SH4 processor and PowerVR graphics. The Xbox has what is essentially a Pentium III and a Geforce4. There's no way an Xbox is running DC games without embedding an entire DC in there. I can't believe that was ever seriously considered. I expect a confused journalist is misquoting someone.

Agreed unless the early xbox design documents had it using the SH4 processor instead of PIII.Hatta wrote:The Dreamcast has a 128 bit SH4 processor and PowerVR graphics. that's what I was thinking. They said it was seriously considered. That doesn't say WHEN it was considered. So it was most likely early in the design process before anything was decided upon.gtmtnbiker wrote:
