I started doing that, but really only Nintendo and Konami interest me at the moment. Maybe Capcom, but can't do too many at a time.

Man, good luck with Capcom collecting. That's a task from hell, half of their catalog consists of Mega Man Battle Network games.
Does anyone else here only collect - or just strongly prefer - platform-exclusive titles for his collection?

A game seems "neater" to me when it's just on one platform. Like it adds to the character of the console. Is that completely weird?
Not weird at all, when a game is developed for one console, you automatically think that much care went into developing and catering towards that particular hardware. With games that were developed simultaneously on different platforms, you get the feeling that some versions were rushed (or all of them) due to the diverted manpower. This is why when I see Lego games released across previous-gen and current-gen, I am sickened and envision some shitty framerates and everything else associated with downgrading to inferior hardware - or worse, OUTSOURCING!

That said, first party titles and console exclusives are what attract people to consoles - not ports that can be played on other platforms.

Not usually, as I'll collect whatever interests me on a particular console. Like others have stated, if it's something I really want to play I'll get the best version. I can see why you'd want to collect in this fashion though. For older consoles, their platform exclusives are certainly a big part of their identity.

Likewise. When I get into "collection mode," I'm like a malnourished child searching for food. I tend to go all out scouring eBay, forums, online stores etc. looking for whatever I happen to be interested in at that time. Then I take a breather. I wouldn't have the energy to do that for multiple platforms! It's stressful being on the hunt. Image I need to change my ways. Though if something did pop up on another platform, I'd definitely grab it.

I tend to favour collecting platform-exclusives, as I feel they usually to make more of the console's power, hardware and capabilities. Also, it makes sense in terms of why I own the console. For example, there wouldn't be any point in me owning a Gamecube if I mostly owned multi-platform games, since I could just stick to my PS2 (without going into debates over which console has the best versions).

That doesn't mean I don't buy multi-platform games though. A good game is a good game regardless of whether it's exclusive or not. But most consoles I bought for the exclusives (Sega consoles for Sega games and exclusives, Nintendo consoles for the Rare/Nintendo games and exclusives, and the Playstation for their exclusives).

That would be very tough for me to do. I tend to be quite sporadic with my game purchases since it really depends on what "mood" I'm in. For example, I've been getting quite cozy with my PS3 so instead of buying a lot of my multi-platform games on the 360 I've been purchasing them for the PS3.

It is fun to buy console exclusives since they do sort of act as a showcase for that console. I actually like trying to track down different versions of the same game such as a the GBA and Gamecube version since they are obviously going to be very different experiences.
