Re: Dreamcast VGA box questions

What specific VGA box do you recommend? I'm looking at the perfOrmance one right now. Im guessing most features are included in all of them except a port for the dc video cable, 3.5mm jack and s-video. I'm trying to at least get my systems to be s-video or better.

Most of the famous games support VGA Mode, if not you could easily switch to S-Video without any hassle.

Most of the LCD monitors have a native resolution (ex: 1680x1050) so if you're using VGA, do the monitors usually letter box it, that is, have take up part of the screen? Or do they scale it to fit the whole screen?

Both LCD screens I have used with VGA scaled the picture and preserved the aspect ratio.

This is absolutely why I just love VGA on Dreamcast! I have yet to find any TV or monitor that will upscale or do any sort of post processing to said video input, unlike other video connections like S-vid, composite, etc. that do go through that awful process. DC through VGA on any monitor monitor I've used will display in 4:3 by default. The user usually has the option to fill up the screen by strecthing the image to take up the entire screen if they so wish to through their monitor or TV's screen configuration. This is really great because some games like Rayman 2, Toy Commander, TXR2, have a 16:9 widescreen option. The Dreamcast was SO ahead of the game when it came out! :D

i ended up getting the generic type that is sold here and the cheapest vga cable money can buy, and for $20 total, i can't complain. I still can't believe the jump from composite to s-video was that great then to VGA, wow...i just wish 2d games didn't look like ass.
