I want Ikaruga to win. I can't justify forking out for DoDonPachi that close to Christmas, and Ikaruga is about half it's price.

Re: Poll 4 - Vertical Shooter
Yeah, I think DDP is far more influentail. Heck, it won top place in the annual "top 25 shmups" over on the shmups forums for 5 years in a row. (Battle Garegga won this yeardsheinem wrote:DDP is much more accessible than Ikaruga for a number of reasons:noiseredux wrote:I'm actually kind of surprised Ikaruga hasn't been in the lead. Hmm. Nothing against DDP of course.
Cost - free via MAME, $7 on PSN. Ikaruga is $10 on XBLA and not working on MAME last I knew.
Difficulty - DDP is also easier and more straightforward (while still presenting a challenge). Ikaruga's mechanic is cool, but more punishing. It requires you to earn credits over hours to see the end by credit feeding. DDP allows you to credit feed.
DDP is also more influential and, arguably, more important in shmup history
Plus, Ikaruga is meant to be played 1 way, like solving puzzles. DDP is a straight up bullet hell, with some patterns that would be seen in almost every bullet hell to come after it.
Plus, it feels good to play DDP, even just for survival. Unless I play Ikaruga the right way, it just feels wrong.
... Plus, I think dodging > absorbing.
And yeah, the MAME version of DDP is considered closest to the PCB, surpassing both Saturn and PS1 releases. To get the true Ikaruga experience, you have to fork out a bit more money.

I think the answer is no, but is there any possible way to play DDP on my Dreamcast? Perhaps the PS1 version can be bleemed? Perhaps the DC's MAME emulator could handle the arcade version? Probably not, but I'd love to use my Agetec stick...

As much as I love Treasure and Ikaruga, I went with DDP - it's just so damn intense!

Why not play it on the PSP? That's how I will be playing it (using Popstation). My vote went for DDP.noiseredux wrote:I think the answer is no, but is there any possible way to play DDP on my Dreamcast? Perhaps the PS1 version can be bleemed?
