Re: Anybody play Animal Crossing: Gamecube?
As much as a Gamecube fan I am, and as much of a fan as I am of the first Animal Crossing game, I still maintain that the DS sequel is superior. I loved the online play, and I actually used it quite often. I'm excited for the new AC game for the 3DS, as well.
Re: Anybody play Animal Crossing: Gamecube?
I forget if I have already posted this, but GameCube Animal Crossing with the original unused memory card is the only game I decided to keep when selling off my collection. I figure I wouldn't get much of a premium for it, and finding another in that condition is extremely unlikely.
I tried the game, using a different memory card of course, and I am not too sure about it. It seems like a lot of work. Maybe if I had another player to play along with me, so we could visit each other's town and such.
I think I would enjoy Harvest Moon more, but I haven't had a chance to snag a SNES copy yet.

i like the DS version a little more myself, when i did have the GC version I'd often forget to play it for weeks on end, then months and eventually left my town alone for 3 years and i felt like i missed on a bunch of crap, but with the DS version (on my flash card) I'd often pop back in town and get some errands done more often, damn wish i still had a DS ...

I only have the GameCube version. It's a fun diversion every now and then. I just wish it had keyboard support.

I was always big on the ds version. I think it is best because it is a great time killer for travel, or just playing at home. I didn't see much difference between the GCN version and the DS version. By the way I have always wondered why the gamecube is abbreviated as GCN rather than NGC or just GC. Anyone know?
Re: Anybody play Animal Crossing: Gamecube?
OK, so.. I was a big fan of the Gamecube version and a mega fan of the DS version (as in multiple copies of the DS version to do wifi with myself, flower cross breeding, etc). I had put off buying the Wii version because of the many reviews that say it is little more than a port of the DS version, and in some ways even inferior than its source material. But as I don't have a DS anymore and was jonesing for some Nook time and the game is now a Selects title, I picked it up on sale. The familiarities to the DS version are not overstated though I like that a lot of the text is still fresh. But seeing literally the same museum (order of rooms is the same although the layout of each section is improved), the same city hall, the same Able Sisters, is a bit of a let down. Maybe it had to be this way for the DS "import" ability. And the interface just doesn't seem as loved as the DS version. It's actually an odd hybrid of an interface that can either operate much like the DS version with a 'point and click' IR style OR you can navigate the world with the nun chuck and do most actions not requiring a menu with the nun chuck's c and z buttons. Which - hey - is just like the DS version. And moreover, I just think the idea of short morsels of gameplay suits a portable better. Plus it's just neater to think a world is ticking away in your pocket. Blah. Anyhow. The City is a neat addition but most of the shops were in the DS too, except as wandering merchants. Maybe the 3DS version will shake things up more. The screenshots certainly look different.

GCN was the abbreviation that Nintendo encouraged publications to use. I believe it was to avoid confusion with other systems that were out at the time. Video game publications at least used to like giving each system a three letter abbreviation, so NGC could have been confused with Neo Geo Pocket Color, and GC could have been confused with Game Boy Color.vgmastercleveland wrote:By the way I have always wondered why the gamecube is abbreviated as GCN rather than NGC or just GC. With the Wii, Nintendo avoided the whole abbreviation business by giving the console a three letter name from the outset.

I still have my original copy of the Gamecube version with memory card as well. I remember when the game first came out me and my best friend both got the game so we could compare finds and towns and also visit each others town as well. It was always interesting when me and my friend talked about each others towns and how different they were. I will say it was very fun and had a lot of interesting things to do for its time. I also liked that it tracked the days and holidays and special events to reflect these since I had never really played anything like that up until then. I also enjoyed using my GBA SP to access the secret island and to use it on other games like Metroid Prime/Fusion and Zelda Wind Waker. I never tried the DS or Wii versions but maybe I will pick up this version soon to see how well it has aged. I can already see that stupid mole yelling at me and weeds being scattered all over the place, no telling what has happened since I have not touched it in like 9 years lol.
