i really hope this guy gets to keep the money, or at least some of it. this is a really heartbreaking story. i can't imagine the grief that guy is going through right now from his family/friends/etc. i think he did the right thing but i know i'd have a hard time giving it up.

Actually I'd turn it in too. For all the people worried about theives coming back and getting the guy, the bag was in his back yard. If it were a theif, unless they totally forgot the entire neighborhood where they left it, they might have come back to the same house or row of houses anyway if they were going to try and exact any revenge. They probably wouldn't care if he had kept it himself or some other person had found it and walked off with it before he did.

i'd keep it and move the next day, they can come back and search my garden all they want.

I really wouldn't want to turn it in, but the guilt would gnaw at me endlessly. So I would turn it in.

Right. Because you never know who would leave that kind of money... and if they'd come back for it.

the article said that if nobody claims the bag the finder might be able to keep it. to be honest, if nobody claimed it i don't know if i would want to keep it. who carries around duffel bags full of money besides people committing illegal acts? you bet your ass they will try to take back that bag of paper if the money is given away.
