"OK. The game is done! 10 characters and 10 maps. Let's release it on a DVD for $60."

"Wait. How bout we only release 8 characters and maps initially. Then a month later, we can release the other 2 characters and maps for $20, as DLC."

"Nice idea! But wait, won't our customers complain about paying more for less? They don't even own the DLC content. They are only licensing it. The only part they do own, the DVD, won't be worth much since it's only part of the game. There are so many things wrong about this. Our customers won't like getting fucked over by obvious bullshit like this."

"You kidding? Our customers are fucking morons! Not only will they be unable to see how badly we are fucking them, they will actually think we are doing them a favor. It's win/win!"

"I guess you're right. There will be a few smart customers who won't appreciate getting fucked over like this, but thankfully the huge amount of blind idiots out there will drown them out. It's perfect."

"Isn't it great how dumb our customers are? We can shit on them and they enjoy it. Hehehehe."

"Let's go all digital download after this and really fuck em over."

"Sounds like a plan."

You know, I have never purchased a single bit DLC. I have never felt like any of the games I've played through were incomplete because of it.

The trick is to either wait for a GotY version that includes all the DLC for free, or to wait a few years until the DLC becomes free. I've never paid for DLC either.

OR you can buy DLC for a game that you feel that was complete without it and would like to experience more of.

Most of the games that have pre-planned or pay-to-unlock-what's-already-on-your-disc DLC are crap that I couldn't possibly make myself buy anyway. Generic shooters that EA and Activision crank out for fratboy gamers and the like. The culprit closest to bothering me is Capcom... but MegaMan 9 & 10 and their DLC were so cheap I still don't care, and I can't make myself take Street Fighter IV costumes seriously as something I'm really missing out on.

I don't think I have either. But I'll probably get Freddy Krueger for MK9 because that's right up my alley. But yeah. I don't feel I"m missing anything from most games with optional DLC.
