Did you mod it yourself? What did you use to mod it with? How is the quality of the mod / screen?...

What do you all prefer playing GB/GBC games on?

I play my GB on my GB Light I imported and my GBC on my GBC that I modded with a light. It was pretty easy; you rip the front light out of a first gen GBA SP and stick it in the GBC. Unfortunately the instructions I used were removed from the forum they were on, so I can't link.

I didn't mod it myself, and it's the usual LEDs you would light a GBA screen with. Nothing special. The quality is about what you'd expect from a frontlit hacked solution vs a proper backlight. I just prefer the form factor over the SP, and with the light mod, it's pretty enjoyable.nightrnr wrote:I too, still want to know.elmagicochrisg wrote:This is by far the best answer so far IMO...irixith wrote:I use the original model GBA (modded with a light), because it's my favourite and most comfortable layout of the GBA models.

You do know there's those Chinese GBA clones with backlight do you?...irixith wrote:I didn't mod it myself, and it's the usual LEDs you would light a GBA screen with. Nothing special. Might be good to look into those...

I do what little GB/GBC gaming I do, on the Gameboy Player (Or SGB if it has something special for it) via S-Video cables.
Re: What do you all prefer playing GB/GBC games on?
This was the only Super Game Boy reference? Slight disappointment.nightrnr wrote:I'm really liking Lameboy (DS emulator) right now: Mostly because it plays a colorized Metroid II (which has trouble running on most emus, including Masterboy). Super GB support is also a nice bonus.
I love the thing. Using SNES controller is very comfortable; very glad mine held up. I had older cousins' GB games, which were pretty choice and Pokemon. Still in use, still playing Pokemon--out on loan with cartridge. I love the way the games look on the tv. If you have the hardware, hook it up to your CRTs or LCDs--if you've got a system, turn it up. Lacks the GBC library but it's still deep.
But, since it's out on loan, I've been using GBCoid on a Motorola Droid Pro. The games work great but the controls--mapped to qwerty keypad--aren't always the best. Final Fantasy & Tetris work especially well but I'm dying in Mega Man trying not to offend people playing at work (free on SlideMe!). Also, Pokemon.

I LOVE the Super Game Boy. The ability to form and choose color schemes on the fly is just awesome. And that's what I tend to use it for most.
But the Super Game Boy enhanced games are pretty neat too. Donkey Kong Land is in my SGB right now.
But...
the topic wanted Handheld preferences, so that's what I mentioned.
That didn't stop people listing the Game Boy Player though.
But hey, anything that plays GB games is fair game to me.

GB Player at home, and GBA SP (black) when I'm on the go.

Re: What do you all prefer playing GB/GBC games on?
I struggle with how to play GB games anymore.
Gameboy Player is amazing, with the exception of the Gamecube controller. I love the Super Gameboy because of the ability to use an SNES controller, but hate that it doesn't play GBA.
Likewise, I think the GBA-SP+ is my main portable choice with it's fantastic screen, but I prefer the size and feel of the original brick Gameboy, but hate it's screen.
If this was how do you play your GBA games? Gameboy Micro, hands down.

GBA:SP all the way. Gotta love that lit screen.
