But we didn't own that cab.

You don't really own your 3DS game either, regardless of what that box and little piece of plastic might make you think.

I would own it just as much as the restaurant owner owned the cab.

You've got a physical copy, but you sure as heck don't "own" it. :P

..and I'll bet a bunch of games are using this method of saving because it's cheaper in production, and everyone's trying to save a buck. I doubt it's some big conspiracy, or anti-piracy or killing used games endeavour. To some suits around a big mahogany table, it probably sounded like a good idea.

I'm not trying to excuse the decision, I'm simply offering a possible explanation/playing devil's advocate. Plus, how much is 3D going to enhance these games anyway? I'd rather play the several dozen free versions of all of these games online than pay $40 for the three of them with flashy graphics...

I don't see this game selling well, undeletable save or not, and I don't plan on buying it, so it's not a big problem for me. If you don't like it, don't buy it either and don't put money into the pockets of the people who made the decision.

That much I can get behind 100%,

This is concerning for me as buy all of my consoles and games second hand and this could cause all sorts of problems in the future if games and consoles are registered to someone and you have to pay a fee to unlock them like EA are doing with there online games. It could also devalue your games I don't like this trend at all.

Here in the uk they have really been pushing the 3ds with alot of t.v adds and pretty girls in game stores demoing nintendos latest hand held.I guessed this is because sales are struggling and from what I read here looks like i'm right.Pulling this undeletable save trick will not help matters.

It's approximately $20 in programming costs. Amortized over the entire print run. And the programmer could knock it out in the time he was planning on spending on TVTropes.org.

Fine with me. I've got a long list of complaints against them. Why did we get a neutered version of Ace Combat 3?! WHY!?

I could do a lot more than that with the time I spend there.

Did you read what I typed?

J T said restrictive DRM drives him to pirate games. (I'm assuming ones he wants to play) His post did not say he only pirates games that are no longer sold(Although He probably does to those games too). If you want a good, in this case a digital video game and it is available to buy from the rights holder, DRM is not a reason to pirate it. Buy it or don't play it.

"Oh but that DRM sucks! I can't stay connected to the internet while playing my connection drops!" Then don't buy it, play it, or pirate it.

Do You know what restrictive DRM is to me? Steam. I hate any form of DRM. Even CD Keys. But I either put up with it, or don't buy it, I do not pirate the game.

For the record, I've never actually pirated a game because I hate the DRM. And I buy A LOT of games. Just take a peak at my Steam Profile if you don't believe that. Those are all purchased legit.

With this crap Capcom is pulling though, along with Ubisoft's constant internet connection stuff, I really don't feel like I owe them the respect of NOT pirating their games. They are intentionally damaging their products because they don't trust us. The way I see it as a consumer is that I have a choice between buying an ethical/legal product that is handicapped to prevent piracy, or I have the choice to pirate a better, nonhandicapped version of the product and possibly be left with a little pang of guilt. But the greater the handicap, the less of a pang of guilt there is. The only added value of the retail version that I pay for is that I can rest soundly knowing that I haven't broken any laws and I've justly paid the developers of the game I enjoy. But when the developer doesn't care enough for their customers to give them a product that is as good as the pirated version because they don't trust us, well.... it gets harder and harder to not become part of the problem. It's like there's a regular version of the game and there's a special edition director's cut version of the game, except the special edition is free as long as you will tolerate a few people on the internet calling you a bad person.

Seriously, I am a long time paying customer to the videogame industry and I've never pirated a new release in my entire life. And here I am saying that Capcom and Ubisoft make me want to pirate. Isn't that bad? Isn't that exactly the opposite effect they are going for?

Honestly, at this point, I'm not entirely certain.
