Oops, I had queued that up for later and I thought it was the right bit when I posted that. Sorry.

I tend to think of a game collector as somebody who goes for the sealed copies. Kind of like how coin collectors want uncirculated, car collectors don't like adding miles to their classics, baseball card/comic book collectors put them in protective sleeves. The goal to keep that particular item as close to original as possible.
As for the duplicates...I think anybody here, who happened to come across another copy of a game like Suikoden 2 would pick it up for a good price even if they had one already. That stuff there is trading material.

J T wrote:For those with an interest in clinical psychology, Hoarding has long been considered a subtype or manifestation of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In the upcoming DSM-V, it may become it's own separate diagnosis.
To read what the current working criteria for the disorder are, you can looke here:
http://www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevisions/P ... px?rid=398One important part of the diagnosis that they are considering is “Persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value.” This means that you're only a hoarder if you collect sports games.

That is interesting, especially the fact that they're trying to distance Hoarding Disorder completely from OCD. I think they may want to reword the last sentence of clause C though, it's a bit vague and shouldn't be an indicator of a hoarder. Hoarding Disorder is the tendency to acquire excessive amounts of belongings which clutter up living spaces, and has nothing to do with a family member's desire to clean up their mess. In other words, having a member of your family who cleans up after your hoarding has become significant doesn't preclude you from being a hoarder. etc.
I think they've stretched the definition of hoarding a bit much here. You can see floor space, you can see that things are lined up and ordered and grouped (at least from the picture, can't watch the video right now). Yes, he has a ton of stuff but it's consistent in theme and was acquired for enjoyment it seems. If he opened up his arcade museum to the public he would have no problem paying off his debt. I feel he is more of a compulsive collector and remorseless spender more than a hoarder, but I'd have to watch the episode.

According to A&E, the episode will be on this weekend so set your DVR to record it.

Maybe it will be on the website after this weekend because it's a "new" episode?

I live about 5 miles from Wildwood, I think I'm going to check this place out. Still 20 cents a game... I got a few rolls of dimes laying around somewhere. Maybe I'll pull out the camcorder for you guys if there is anything interesting.

Guess that includes me then, as I have a stack of old Madden games that I never play, yet don't want to get rid of.

I watched the episode Saturday night. It was interesting. Randy didn't seem too bad of a person to me. He had all kinds of pinball machines and other stuff that you might find on the boardwalk.
The other hoarder featured was Vicki and man, she has serious issues.
I still don't see this episodes in the list of ones you can watch on A&E's website.

I caught the last few minutes of this one the other night on TV. Dudes place is awesome looking. Reminds me a ton of the machines they have in that huge penny arcade in San Fransisco.
One thing, I didn't catch exactly where this guy was (besides on a boardwalk), anyone recall his location?
I feel for the guy. He seems like all he needs is a weekly therapy visit and a lawyer to help him with the legal BS keeping his place closed to the public and he'd be alright.
I mean, come on! (as long as he got rid of those mannequins) Who wouldn't want to go to RandyLand?

I often wonder where the line is drawn between collector and hoarder. I haven't watched this episode yet, though I'm looking forward to doing so later.
But whether you've watched it or not, when do you think a collector crosses the line into becoming a hoarder?
I didn't backread for 5 or so pages, but it's pretty a very clear line to me:
A hoarder would be a collector is they had a house big enough for their collection, and kept their collection neat, in good shape, and in an orderly fashion. Speaking of orderly fashion you should see the new smock I bought (sorry).

Wildwood, NJ
I forgot to mention that they (Matt and his cleanup crew) were there to help Randy setup his new arcade location so that he can start making money, etc. At the end of the show, they said that Randy opened his location but the turnout was lower than expected but that he still hopes to be successful.
I did a google search and came across this thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.game ... c7448d2674Apparently Randy has a $10 hourly admission fee. So you pay $10 and play any game for an hour. I'm also surprised that people are still using newsgroups (where that thread was posted). I thought it was overrun with spam.
