I'm sure I did and I vaguely remember enjoying it more than other fishing segments in games (it was quite a few years ago).Ack wrote:Did any of you play through the fishing mini-game in Breath of Fire III? It was quite well done in my opinion.

That's as close to a fishing game I ever played (Animal Crossing that is). Damned fun too!
I think part of it had to do with the fact you could actually sell the fish or keep em as pets/furniture.

I love the arcade style fishing games. I own like 4 or 5 of them for the Dreamcast, along with a couple rod controllers. I can't exactly say what it is that is so fun though. Lack of sea sickness? I do like to compete with friends for scores and such.

I was about to come in and mention this one. They could have made the fishing segments of BOF3 a game in and of itself. (And, if I remember correctly, they actually did. It was a mobile game, of course, but still.)Ack wrote:Did any of you play through the fishing mini-game in Breath of Fire III? It was quite well done in my opinion.

Re: WHO plays fishing games?
Back when I was growing up my dad's idea of a fun afternoon was to go out on the lake and relax and fish. I was always going along with him. He's my dad after all and I knew it was something he wanted us to enjoy together. I never had the heart to tell him (although I suspect he knew) but I'd usually spend those trips bored out of my mind! I just couldnt get into the spirit of the whole experience and would just be casting my line while counting down to the time we could get home and I'd be free to game. Then, when we got a PS1 one of the first games he bought me was a fishing game. Can't even remember which one to be honest but it was kinda like a bridging of a gap between us. I enjoyed it because it didn't involve getting up early and going out on the lake. And he enjoyed it well enough that it became something we could do together easier. At the risk of sounding sappy, it's actually one of my fonder memories growing up. Of course, the funny thing is, the last time I went home to visit, I was the one who convinced him to go out on the lake with me. Life can be weird sometimes.
