Oh yeah I'm overall a much bigger fan of Gradius, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed R-Type Final. I thought it was also actually very doable and beat it (epic final boss fight from what I remember and the game was visually really cool).
Gradius V on the other hand, I believe is probably the most brutal Gradius game next to Gradius III Arcade. I love V, but I've never been able to get past the green goo stage. Annihilates me every single time. I've watched videos of it too and I don't even think I've ever gotten to the part where the level starts tilting with that goo crap. It reminds me a lot of shooting those cave walls or bubbly walls in the earlier games, but it's just way tougher to see what's going on in Gradius V or something. I like how this game also instantly respawns you unlike the other games (something I love about the faster paced style of Thunder Force, etc).
There's also the Gradius III-IV PS2 collection totally worth picking up, think it goes for a little bit though. Raiden III would be a good choice too.
Am I missing anything in my PS2 collection?

Not a Shiki 2 fan?Xeogred wrote:Oh yeah I'm overall a much bigger fan of Gradius, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed R-Type Final. I thought it was also actually very doable and beat it (epic final boss fight from what I remember and the game was visually really cool).

I enjoy Raiden 3, and this might be blasphemy, but whenever I feel the crave for a raiden game, 99% of the time its gonna be Raiden Fighters Aces, so 3 and 4 never really get much love from me.
EDIT: Thunderforce is also one of my favorite hori shooters. The only one I play more often than those and Gradius V is probably the Macross hopri on the sfc
Re: Am I missing anything in my PS2 collection?
I think I hear a lot about Raiden Fighters Aces, I'm not too familiar with that series so what do I know.
I just looked up Shikigami 2 on youtube and it looks pretty awesome. Not "too much" bullets going on, haha. I'm not a Touhou/bullet hell fan at all to be honest, but this one looks pretty standard.
Thunder Force IV for me is my #1 favorite horizontal shooter hands down, heh.

Actually, shiki 2 is the game that got me into bullet hell games. I actually really dislike TouhouXeogred wrote:I think I hear a lot about Raiden Fighters Aces, I'm not too familiar with that series so what do I know.![]()

Simple scoring system too. get close to bullets and get more gold. Just enough of a risk-reward factor to keep the early game interesting. Plus, you get to chose from like 7 characters, and they all play completely different.
... and its like $4!

OK, here is a bit more to add to the list. In case you didn't know, I have a few PS2 games myself. I'm trying to understand what you like based on what you already own, then recommend accordingly.
Because you appear to mostly like RPGS:
Culdcept
Front Mission 4
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Suikoden III
Tales of the Abyss
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
Because you like fun & weird games like Katamari Damacy
Ape Escape 3
Gitaroo Man
God Hand
Mister Mosquito
Parappa the Rapper 2
R.A.D.- Robot Alchemic Drive
Space Channel 5: Special Edition
Because you like Metal Gear
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
(You can avoid the other Splinter Cell's if you want, but at least give this one a fair shot)
Because you like Devil May Cry
Genji: Dawn of the Samurai
Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Shinobi
Because you like retro-flavored games
Capcom Classics Vol 1 & 2
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Gradius V
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil
Metal Slug 4 & 5
The Red Star
Because you like artistically presented games like Okami
Grim Grimoire
Odin Sphere
Because doesn't everyone with a PS2 own these mainstream classics?
God of War 1 & 2
Gran Turismo 3 & 4
Guitar Hero 1 & 2
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 & 4
Because you don't have any racing games
Burnout: Revenge
Midnight Club 2
Because you need a new addiction
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Because your collection gets instant cool point for owning them
Silent Hill 2
The Warriors

Definite cool points for Yakuza 1 & 2. I picked up both of them off of the gamestop website complete for $6-7 each, far less than what people on e-bay wanted.J T wrote:

But why buy?
Great beat'em up feel, some light leveling, tons of content, great story, funny writing, etc...
Just great games all around. Oh and the first one is the only one with english voice overs, which is not the greatest, but it does have Mark Hamill doing the voice of Majima which is pretty hilarious. Almost worth it for that alone.
