You're breaking a rule for selling games and services on the site. There is a 14 day minimum wait after creating your profile before you can offer to sell anything. And even then all items for sale must go in the B/S/T forum.

So you kind of are being dishonest and breaking the rules at the same time. But I would assume it is unintentional - you just haven't read any of the stickies on the site yet. You should contact a moderator and talk with them about where this thread should be and if you are allowed to post it.
If a developer wants to introduce a game here that they made, I don't think it should have to require the 14 day waiting period, nor do I think it should go in buy/sell/trade. It's self-promotion, but I don't think there's anything all that wrong with that as long as they don't spam it all over the site in multiple forums and as long as they are willing to accept we might have some criticism for them that they won't like.

I post lots of games similar to this one as a recommendation for people to try. It doesn't seem that different to me to post your own game, as opposed to someone elses. It's just that people are understandibly going to be skeptical when it's your first post and you haven't contributed to the forums beyond your self promotion.

As a bit of advice to Predator, you might be wise to look for people like me on forums that post a lot about indie games and ask them if they might promote the game for you. I would have been receptive to something like that and you would have me introducing it to the community as someone people trust, which allows a friendlier introduction of your game. However, I wouldn't suggest just anything to the forum members, so it's possible that people like me wouldn't help you promote too.

It's a little more complex than that, if the free trial I have is any witness. It included spraying flowers and worms.

Agreed. Some of you guys need to cut him a break, as having developers seek us out and ask our opinions (as opposed to spam and run) is something that I think can strengthen the forum. Predator was happy to comply with the requests made, and I see no problem with him chatting about his game here.

Predator, you should also know that you'll probably get more feedback on your game (and more interest in the long run) if you take part in discussion elsewhere in the forums (e.g. the "Platformers" forum). I think if people knew why you felt compelled to make the game, what retro influences you had in making it, etc. - then you would find this community to be a valuable tool in offering productive feedback at every step of the development cycle.

Thank you for mentioning that, I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.
We're new to self-publishing actually, we thought we'd give it a try. We solely used publishers in the past and we thought me might as well try some self promoting under our target market.
As for getting bad criticism.. we don't actually see bad criticism as a bad thing at all, its like the guys from Runic said about Torchlight. People weren't pleased about not getting multiplayer so all they did was add multiplayer for Torchlight 2. Trust me, in the industry that we're in you grow a tough skin. On the same note, not everyone has the required knowledge to give crit whatsoever. So we keep our filters on.

Its artsy looking, your enemies look like rejected pictures from hallmark gift cards.
Mario, sonic, mainly establish franchise have an art theme, colorful, and cute.
Your game basically looks like you got sprites from a collection of free artwork.

I kinda like the art direction. There's something almost old-school Sega about it. It reminds me of some of the original Alex Kidd games. I also like how the dog character looks like a canine version of Opa Opa!
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Ok, I took a look at the video and it does look cute and kind of fun - but platformers are all about control mechanics and level design for me. It is something I would love to have a demo to try before plunking down $5. Is there a two level demo or anything?

Yeah, you can download it, its on a timer, or it plays the first 3 levels or so. It will give you the option to buy or just play the demo.
The levels in the beginning might seem a little easy to the more hardcore platformer gamers around here. So we'll add a bit more to the video I reckon, I've already spoken to the other guys about that.
