I was reading an article about Mass Effect 3 where they said they are considering how to incorporate a multi-player experience and that irked me a bit. There's probably no bigger single player experience going than the Mass Effect games right now and even they are starting to think this wayXeogred wrote:Beyond Valve it's been quite annoying that this is the general direction the entire industry has taken this generation, so if they're going all out on this path too that's kind of a bummer. It's honestly kind of funny how oddly excited I get when I hear about games that won't be having multiplayer, co-op, or anything like that. Thank you Ken Levine and Bioshock Infinite, etc.

I remember that too, last I heard though they officially canned the idea. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though...Gamerforlife wrote:I was reading an article about Mass Effect 3 where they said they are considering how to incorporate a multi-player experience and that irked me a bit. I was actually sorta pleased when I learned that Batman: Arkham City scrapped its multi-player mode.

You're correct. ME3 Multi has been laid to rest.Xeogred wrote:I remember that too, last I heard though they officially canned the idea. How the fuck would that even work? You play as the Bat-gang from the Dark Knight returns?AppleQueso wrote:I was actually sorta pleased when I learned that Batman: Arkham City scrapped its multi-player mode.

Thankfully they scrapped that and same with ME3... probably would've just been boring half assed Gears stuff or something.ZeroAX wrote:How the fuck would that even work? I remember a day when we were proud to stay shut up in our houses playing video games. Human contact was to be shunned, not embraced.

This still applies to me, for better or for worse.MrPopo wrote:I remember a day when we were proud to stay shut up in our houses playing video games. Human contact was to be shunned, not embraced.

There is no way Valve will not release HL2:Ep3, they are not going to put to rest one of there most successful franchises. This is just more Valve 'trickery' leading up to an announcement, most likely of something singleplayer.

First of all, Unreal was a great single-player experience, though I didn't care as much for the Return to Na Pali expansion. I also enjoyed Unreal 2, but maybe that's just me. I do wish we could bring back the days of honoring individuals for creative and interesting map designs, but those are long past.
As for Valve, if that's what they want, that's what they want. I think they're looking at the success of the Call of Duty model, which yes is being run into the ground but is still making money. Gamers are horrendous about boycotting anything anyway, so it makes sense we're usually treated as sheep.
Honestly though I'm questioning what Half-Life 2 Episode 3 would have been anyway. It's been in development for how long? It better be a full length title by this point.
Oh, one other thing for Hatta. Counterstrike was originally moderately popular as a creative Half-Life mod but swelled to success after the attack on the World Trade Center. Suddenly terrorists were interesting, and people wanted to shoot them. It effectively killed off the large population which had been playing Team Fortress Classic at the time, which was Counterstrike's big rival. I don't care much for CS either.
