This situation that the game is in makes me very uneasy. I don't own a 3DS and I won't be able to get one for some time, so now I'm not in a position to help support the project. I'm mostly afraid that Capcom is dooming it with this strategy, the series isn't well known enough to put barriers of any kind between it and the consumer populace.

Regardless, if this game doesn't get made because of this event it'll just make me sick.

You've got a good point but I also am looking at it this way: Either the game will succeed or not. If it isn't going to succeed then this will demonstrate that BEFORE Capcom puts a ton of money into it.

Also it makes sure that Capcom gets feedback on the game to tweak it before it comes under the review gun.

Damn, maybe I just want this so much that I'll find a silver lining to everything.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I know what you mean, it's been difficult for me also to stay away from biased optimism with this one.

There are a lot of people who would disagree with you on that.

I know. I think it's the rose-tinted glasses.

It worked for GT5.

It shouldn't have.

I laughed when they announced prologue. I cried when it succeeded.

They've been doing paid GT demos since the PS1 days in Europe and Japan, it was more than due for us here in the US. Plus for the $40 it originally cost you got as much or more content than most typical $60 racing games these days.

As for MML3 Capcom is doing this precisely to doom it, they know that at any other point where adoption wold be greater it would get around a million downloads. But, if they do it now the system population is so small they'll be able to write it off no matter what. Capcom hasn't exactly been trying to preserve that Japanese quirkiness and feel their games had these days as they look to westernize their output.

I mean look at SSF4 and it's ridiculously bad rap soundtrack.

Yeah, this is pretty much just Capcom trying to kill Mega Man Legends as soon as they can. With the low adoption rate of the 3DS, charging for the demo, and how niche the game itself is in the first place, it's a perfect storm of shit to kill the franchise. And they know it.

It's just like how they are trying to kill Darkstalkers by demanding that there be half a million unique signatures in the sequel petition before they even THINK about making a new one. Half a Million? Marvel vs Capcom 3 barely managed to scrap half a million in sales. God know how many of those sales would have actually signed a petition for it, but I can tell you it would have been much less than half a million.

In short, Capcom is dead to me. And if they keep this shit up, I feel pretty sure they'll be dead to the rest of the world in about five years, when they've lost so much money on the latest Dark Void, Lost Planet and other "Let's copy Epic Games!" shit they've been doing lately, and the endless Street Fighter, Devil May Cry and Resident Evil sequels and spin-offs finally reach their breaking point and only inspire feelings of emptiness in their former fans.

The thing has broken every sales record for a Nintendo game console and it's only been out for a month. How is that a low adoption rate?

Or maybe it's that Legends, Legends 2, and Tron Bonne are really fun, zany games. I still make a point of playing Legends at least once a year. I love the multitude of ways to solve any problem, the almost metroid-esque tunneling, and the story line that, while light hearted, serves as the perfect finale to the Megaman storyline.

Your disliking a game does not equate to everyone disliking the game. Capcom would not have made a point of including a Legends character in the last 3 entries of the 'vs' series if the game did not have a strong legacy.

Hmm, I kept hearing websites talking about how the 3DS isn't selling as fast as Nintendo expected. To be honest, I was just taking their word for it, because I'm just not interested in the 3DS enough to keep up with it. My apologies.

To be honest, when I heard about MML3 and then heard it was on the 3DS, it felt the same as hearing there was going to be a Valkyria Chronicles 2 and that it was going to be on the PSP - Extreme excitement from the first part followed by that excitement being deflated as soon as I heard the second part of the news.

Judging by how I ended up buying a PSP + VC2 and didn't even get past the training missions before I put it down and never played it again, I get the feeling the same will happen with 3DS + MML3.

Nintendo has said they are very happy with sales. I think the problem is that Wii and NDS were out of stock for months because Nintendo did not manufacture a sufficient number ahead of time / that conspiracy about Nintendo deliberately inflating prices by withholding stock. The 3DS shipped in record large units and because there are a few still on the shelves, people are assuming the thing has failed to sell.

The biggest problem is that the winning software just isn't there yet. For some people, myself included, Legends 3 is that winning software.

Controls are a little clunky and outdated, other than that I can't think of anything wrong with the games.
