I did the exact same thing. He wanted it for the whole "don't have to carry around a bunch of games" thing, but I convinced him that paying full price for every game would stink.

I remember overhearing a conversation at the checkout at GameStop that went something like this:

Mother: Hi, I'd like to buy the new PSP for my son.

Employee: That would be the PSPGo. Here it is.

Mother: Great, I'll take it along with this PSP game.

Employee: The new PSP doesn't play PSP games.

When I went to buy my PSP at Gamestop, they didn't bother with pushing the Go. The cashier steered me directly towards the used 3000's, although I bought a new one. One could tell that the Go was failing, since a used 3000 is like $20 or $30 cheaper used than new, while a Go was $100 cheaper used.

One of the NGP's biggest improvements over the PSP.

yeah, they're going to use some proprietary memory card for physical game releases, right?

Not quite. The NGP will stop being portable when the battery stops holding a charge. Sony isn't letting us change the battery. Don't be fooled.

NGP = Not a Genuine Portable

What does the battery life have to do with the system's physical media format?

I guess you could call it that, they've announced that the games will come on a cartridge with it's own storage.
