Starship Troopers Blu Ray won't play in my player
Re: Starship Troopers Blu Ray won't play in my player
Reading this thread makes me glad I skipped Blu Ray movies altogether. Why do Blu Ray players need to be updated anyway? How hard is it to just play movies?

I'm glad you got it to work. Blu Ray's look so much better than DVDs 99.9% of the time. Some DVDs look OK (mainly bigger movies from big companies) but others just look like SHIT. (Mainly my anime and older DVDs)
Of course if you don't have an HDTV, then it's really not important

As far as comparison, BlueRay is better then DVD in pic quality. However, the DVDs look decent in the Anamorphic editions. These fill the screen entirely, even my HD 4:3 CRT uses every corner, stretching the widescreen with no black bars at all. The actors lose weight by being stretched vertically, but the HD CRT is forgiving.
Why are a lot of "Wide Screen" movies pressed without this Anamorphic feature? Even on a Widescreen HD those stupid black bars.

Very true. I haven't thought of thatLuke wrote:This coming from someone with the handle "Betamax001" makes the post funny.Betamax001 wrote:I'm glad you got it to work. Alot of those are older DVDs from the late 90s when they essentially just plopped the Laserdisc on a DVD. But I hate those old letterboxed DVDs. Just an excuse to upgrade to Blu!CRTGAMER wrote:Why are a lot of "Wide Screen" movies pressed without this Anamorphic feature? Even on a Widescreen HD those stupid black bars.

Not me, too much already invested in Laser Discs and DVDs. Anamorphic DVDs actually look very clean, plenty of sharpness with my DVD upscaler and HD CRT.Betamax001 wrote:Alot of those are older DVDs from the late 90s when they essentially just plopped the Laserdisc on a DVD. BDLive is the biggest reason why I WON'T go BlueRay. I want my bonus content right on the disc not a temporary before removed online feed! Also, not all BlueRays include the extra DVD disc. Changing all the DVD players from the bedrooms and the portable in the car over to BlueRay can get expensive for a maybe temporary format? Remember Microsoft backed HD DVDs? No thanks, I'll only make the move if DVDs become obsolete. By then streaming will kill all the discs.

Agreed. I've read an article that was saying that eventually all physical media will be phased out and become obsolete. Makes sense if think about it. Yes, I jumped on the blu ray band wagon because it really does look better but that's it for me. There is no way in hell that I'm going for the 3D blu ray thing, waaayyy to expensive and I don't want to watch EVERYTHING in f'n 3D. I don't think it will catch on but that's technology though, constant changes to make things bigger, better, faster, etc.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

3D technology sucks so far. Even the 3DS needs to be positioned exactly perfectly or else it breaks the 3D effect. When we reach a point where we have glasses free 3D that works perfectly at any angle, you will want to watch everything in fucking 3D.Evildeadmanwalking77 wrote:Agreed. Like George lucas with his damn original unedited trilogy. He finally releases them on DVD and they're not anamorphic.CRTGAMER wrote:I don't think my name helps either.Luke wrote:This coming from someone with the handle "Betamax001" makes the post funny.Betamax001 wrote:I'm glad you got it to work.
