Like I said earlier, this show is being done by someone who worked on The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. I'd say chances are pretty high that it's a good show

I personally love the new series. It is clever, well-animated, has great voice actors, and is cute without being braindead like most girl's cartoons. If you aren't outright opposed to the idea, then give it a shot. If you're watching chronologically, watch at least past the first two episodes, because they are just introductory episodes. The only thing I really dislike about the show and that I think is too cutesy and overdone is the opening credits intro, which is easily skippable.

Also, the denizens of the internet have outfitted screenshots and fanart of the show to every internet meme and series imaginable, so there is some fun to be had there, too:

I had no idea this newer show existed, so I thought BoringSupreez was talking about the older show/toys and had a serious moment there.
With that said, this show actually does look pretty awesome. If I actually watched TV shows with any regularity I'd be putting this one on my watch list.

I didn't know this even existed. It's kind of mind boggling to picture anyone above the age of 5 (like the OP wrote) being entertained by watching something like this (regardless of whether or not it's 'girly').

I would say that about >95% of what's on TV, but far too often that would merely insult the 5 year old.

Would have to agree with that one. 'My Little Pony' is probably less idiotic than a good chunk of the stuff played on TV.
