"Online Pass" system to screw over resellers
Re: "Online Pass" system to screw over resellers
Considering we already have to pay for services like XBL, paying even more for "Online Passes" for some games (buying them used of course) just feels like another slap in the face.

Same, I am guessing from the name that it is Online only. If it effects system link I would be upset as well.Ack wrote:Is it just online multiplayer that's being affected, or multiplayer in general? Because I don't play console games online, so this really won't affect me much if it's only online stuff.

We do?Ryvius wrote:Considering we already have to pay for services like XBL
I don't. I enjoy my 360 quite a bit, but I am not going to pay to do on the 360 what I can do for free on every other platform.

Exactly. There's a reason I buy my dual platform games on the PS3.dsheinem wrote:We do?Ryvius wrote:Considering we already have to pay for services like XBL

Still, the fact remains. I agree it's pretty stupid and have been so dirt poor I dropped XBL months ago and haven't really regretted it. I really hit me in the face looking at half of my 360 titles and thinking "I could be playing this online for free on the PS3/PC".

You are absolutely right (not really, I disagree, but don't take the irony in an unfriendly manner). But then again, companies shouldn't complain that I find this as an incentive NOT to buy their game.....ever. I'll stick to Street Fighter.dsheinem wrote:tbh, I don't blame the companies who do this one bit. What's wrong with adding incentives for buying new? The project $10 thing that EA does works well too - damn straight I'll buy the new copy over the used if I care about those features. They aren't "screwing" people so much as "rewarding" those who buy something when it is brand new.
I also wanted to buy the new FIFA, but screw them, I'm giving my money to 2K sports for making sports game which don't charge you for online play.
Besides, let's be honest, many people consider online part of the package. EA can pull this shit with you Americans, cause they have the exclusive NFL license (how the fuck that is legal I still don't understand), but FIFA and NBA Live/Elite do have competition, so I don't get where they are coming from, pulling stunts like this.

I'm not sure what the status of the NBA and FIFA is, but I was talking more about how they created a monopoly by buying exclusive rights. It's like some film theater franchise, signing contracts with every single studio, to have exclusive rights to playing their movies.AppleQueso wrote:

Every other cinema would be out of business in 3 days.
Technically the free market shouldn't allow such a thing to happen, but we all know how often the "free" market is manipulated, and then the government is supposed to intervene.

EA has a monopoly on FIFA too, but PES is still doing well.
