No matter what though, your flashcart absolutely depends on that battery to be able to save the games you play.
That last bit that you said about absolutely needing the battery to save is untrue. It might have been true when you posted this but at least now the only purpose of the battery is to save games in NOR. The reason I know this is because when I got my EZ Flash IV, it always kept saying the message "battery is dry or first in". It still does but I can still save the games if I do the soft reset of A+B+UP+L. But the biggest thing that proved that you don't need the battery is that I thought I could fix the "battery dry or first in" thing by taking apart the cartridge and messing with the battery. Well, turns out the company that shipped me the cart didn't solder the battery in right at all. One side of the battery points wasn't even soldered on. Seeing that I was kinda mad and just ripped the battery off the board thinking the cart wasn't going to work at all like that. Well to my astonishment it still continues to save to the memory card. So yeah, unless you want to play games that are 32 MB in size which require you to copy the ROM to NOR memory, (btw there are VERY few of that size) you will have no trouble keeping your save files.
I have an EZ Flash 4 and it's great for GBA games. I bought it for the Fire Emblem 6 translation, but there are a lot of cool GBA games out there! My experience with NES and Game Boy Color emulation has been less than perfect, though.
PSP is a better option for emulation, especially if we're talking 16-bit games, but even the NES emulator's aren't completely accurate.

I dont remember which one I have, but I used it extensively for about two years when I first got my DS. It was a good addition and let me finally beat some of the launch titles that were stolen from me years ago - like Kuru Kuru Kururin and Napoleon
I'd like to get one of these, but I already have an R4 card for my DS (which is awesome BTW), so I'm kinda hoping someone will find a way to run GBA games off of that. Hasn't happened yet, but hope springs eternal.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

If you want to do it on your DS you can get a so-called "slot 2 device" like the 3 in 1 (also has memory expansion and rumble). In fact you can get one that fits properly in the DS Lite. Look up "Ezflash V 3 in 1" or something similar.
