Tecmo Super Bowl (any of the three SNES games), and Mutant League Football.

This. Blitz took a boring game like football and actually made it fun.

I have Tecmo Bowl Kickoff for the DS and love it. The game is not licensed so it can't be outdated plus you can edit every team to match its NFL counterpart.

As for general games, I noticed that you have a DC listed in your signature and I recommend the NCAA football game. It plays great and since there are no names it's roster can't really be considered "dated".

Just saw this thread get revived. Since my last posts here I've started playing Backbreaker. If you can get past the insane difficulty curve it's a fantastic game, especially if you hack in the real NFL roster.

Although I may be a touch biased as I've always been a physics/Euphoria whore
Currently playing: Skies of Arcadia, Mass Effect 2, Backbreaker

Consoles Owned: XBox 360, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, N64DD, PSone, XBox, Game Boy Advance SP, Gameboy Pocket, Game Gear.

Madden 12 this year is very good. The offline franchise mode is very deep and offers a ton of hours of gameplay.

So I've heard. I keep meaning to download the demo because what I've seen and heard has all been very good

I am not sure if any pigskin title can knock aside the soft spot in my heart for Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES.

Agreed Tecmo Super Bowl no doubt. I had NFL 95 growing up... that was the first one I owned but since then I developed a love for Tecmo Super Bowl and play it today. The fact that there are live tournaments, people playing it online and new releases of Tecmo Super Bowl with current rosters each year says a lot.

Hmm, the best NFL licensed games:

Tecmo Super Bowl - NES
Madden '95 - Genesis (I'm partial to '96 but '95 had real names and no passing windows for the first time)
NFL 2K (and 2k1 and 2k2) - Dreamcast
NFL 2K5 - Xbox/PS2
Any Madden of the last 10 years is a solid game.

This does not include any arcade titles like NFL Blitz or NFL Street.
