Actually with only a small exception here and there, it is the same voice cast. David Hayter made a point of insisting that the vocals be re-recorded to take advantage of the increased storage space on a GCN disc. When it came time to cast they grabbed most of the original crew. The lost of Mei Ling and Naomi's accents were pretty notable, though...
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Whoever did the voice of Grey Fox in the remake was nowhere near as good as the original. His cries of "Hurt...me...MORE!" in the original were disturbing. In the remake, it sounds like he just wants to be put out of his misery, or is bored with fighting you. This is honestly the single thing that bugged me more than any other part of the remake.

While we're talking about game platform variations, how is Hunter: The Reckoning on the Cube? I played a demo of the XBox version years ago and it was fun but I still haven't picked it up. Anybody know about that game?

And how does Ikaruga compare to other platforms? I only have the GC version so I can't test for differences.

And of course, those people are wrong, wrong, wrong. Of course, Resident Evil 4 is vastly superior on the Gamecube; the PS2 version is a disaster. In fact, the same applies to Viewtiful Joe 1/2, and Killer7. Also, the GC version of Skies of Arcadia ran much smoother and had more content than the DC version. Everyone is correct in saying that Sonic games were better on the Gamecube (Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic DX); I have compared the various versions, and the 'Cube comes out on top each time. Finally, put my vote in as well for the GC version of Soul Calibur 2.

Sonic DX introduced a lot of slowdown and is way glitchier than the DC version, despite the fact that they fixed some of the DC glitches. Plus the new models look weird as fuck.

Sonic Adventure 2 on the other hand was excellent on gamecube, better than the DC original.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes took a lot of the challenge out of the original, replaced the vocal cast, and recut many of the scenes to be faux-Matrix wire-fu crap.

On a technical level, it is an upgrade, but I feel like a lot of the soul was lost in translation.

I agree with it losing it's soul. Yeah, it looks better, but that's about it. It's not the game it was originally on the PSX. They tried to go all cinematic on it, and the new voice overs couldn't touch the original ones. I think the biggest problem was that there really was no need for a remake, MGS was perfect the way it was, and they handled the job poorly.

The Resident Evil remake turned out great because it took the original formula, significantly changed the main scenario up while keeping everything recognizable, added a slew of great features and elements, and was able to maintain the original feel and presence of RE on the PSX. It's a very enjoyable game for both new players, and veterans of the original game. The MGS remake is more or less a carbon copy of the PSX game with revamped visuals and MGS2 controls, which really don't add anything to the gameplay, since no changes were made to make the new controls feel necessary. It's a good game if you've never played the PSX game I suppose, but when I first played it I just found myself wanting to play the original instead.

People that call it an abomination are just being dramatic, I think it was more of a swing and a miss. The novelty of seeing a higher resolution model of Snake wears off pretty quickly, and there's really nothing else the game had going for it.

I saw some vids on youtube on Twin Snakes and what I saw was so horrid I decided never to play it. The new cutscenes were terrible. I can't imagine someone's FIRST experience with Metal Gear Solid being that game as it just seemed like they changed so much that it really isn't the same game. I think it could be a fun curiousity for the hardcore MGS fan, but it certainly isn't better than the original

Also, did someone call RE 4 on the PS 2 a disaster? That seems unreasonably harsh. I actually thought it was a good port, far better than it had any right to be. That new gunboat section in Ada's adventure was badass too. The game lost a little on visuals, but the game still looked great and added widescreen. Supposedly, there are fewer enemies in some spots but overall the game seemed like pretty much the same experience from when I played it on the Gamecube, and I played the GC version like three times. The only difference that stood out to me was the slight drop in visuals, but still an amazing looking game on the PS 2.

The PS 2 version is a solid alternative to the GC original that maintains most of the game's look and feel. I'd actually recommend it for a first timer over the Wii port only because it sounds like the Wii controls make that version of the game easier than it was intended to be and god knows people ALREADY complain about RE 4 and 5 being too easy compared to the old style

RE 4 on the PS2 wasn't a disaster. It was more of a disappointment. The graphics were alright and the added content was a good incentive to get that version but I the controls were horrible. They felt a little off to me.

I'm obviously going to have a differing opinion than ya'll GameCube lovers.

For multi-platform stuff, I'd go PS2 every time, for one simple reason. The controller! [MY OPINION]The GameCube may have had a lot of things going for it, but the controller is bloody awful. That button layout just does not work for so many games, though many tried admirably. [/MY OPINION] A lot of games looked better on the GC, but who cares about looks when the controller is so awful? I'm no particular fan of the PS2 for a variety of reasons, but the controller adapted so well to practically every genre.

I don't see what's so awful about it. It's a very comfortable controller and easy to use... What game(s) do you think don't work with it? I'm not trying to argue (because everyone's entitled to an opinion); just curious what games might not work well.

And to stay on topic. I just recently purchased Zelda Twilight Princess on GC to compare it to the Wii version and it blows the Wii clear out of the water.
