Oscars 2011 or: Am I the only one who watches the Oscars?

Oh, I forgot to say it was a real treat to see Trent Reznor win an Oscar for best soundtrack. Nine Inch Nails has been my favorite band for about 18 years now, so I felt like I was seeing an old friend on stage at the Academy Awards. It was cool.

I think this film is VERY overrated, especially considering the competition. I can see an argument for Speech as best film(though I strongly disagree), but the fact that Hooper won Best Director is a complete and utter joke. The only interestingly directed part of that film was the speech at the end, and that was more due to well planned editing than any kind of innovative camerawork.

I was meaning Best Picture. I went into the movie thinking I was going to utterly hate it, but loved every minute of it. Colin Firth, who I instantly dislike due to so many chick flicks with my girlfriend, really surprised me with his performance.

While I agree its overrated (I feel most movies that become 'big' are generally overrated), it is still a great film and very worthy of Best Picture (Inception to me didn't deserve it, The Fighter would not have surprised me if it had won).

I don't understand the popularity of Social Network. I mean it's a good movie but I feel it was largely picked because of its topic matter and a similar quality movie about something less timely wouldn't have nearly the support.

THANK YOU. Exactly. Of all the nominations this year, I don't get how THIS got this popular in metacritic, imdb and now the oscars.

On the other hand, why wasn't Inception up for best directing??? Christofer Nolan is a god. He hates CGI and uses it as little as possible (when I saw how they shot the spinning room scene I was ). Glag Firth and Portman won. They are among my favorite actors. Dogtooth didn't win foreign film, but what do you expect when it's the most fucked up movie of the decade

that's awesome. I absolutely love the score he did for The Social Network.

I didn't think The King's Speech deserved so many awards. I should have known though-- period piece, stuffy British actors, main character overcoming some form of disability-- it's got all the trappings of a typical Academy favorite.

Damn Oscars. Black Swan should have swept it.

Exactly, it's a good movie but if it came out 6 months ago it wouldn't have gotten nearly as much attention. Colin Firth deserved best actor for it, but I don't think it was best movie and best director material. I would've been happy if it split with Social Network.
