I know PC is usually the route for most games where the option is given, but what makes it the best? I was thinking of grabbing it from GOG, but also considering the GC version.
I find that for games from that era, PC ports of console games should be looked at on a case-by-case basis. There are a surprising amount of shitty PC ports.

NHL 2002 for sure. It plays with more fluidity. Not sure why, but the AI seems more responsive. Great game for any console or PC, but PS2 on this for me.

Every game that I own from that era on all consoles, the Xbox version has always been the superior product in my opinion. I have never run across a game that was inferior on Xbox. Usually the only thing that may be better on the other consoles was exclusive levels/content like Link in Gamecube Soul Calibur or Maps on PS2 Splinter Cell etc...

The music being inferior in the GC version also comes up a lot. Not sure if there is any truth to it. Could be because the cube discs don't hold a lot of data.
GameCube version is very good, but they shortened the music tracks in several places. My understanding is that sound quality is the same otherwise though.

Normally this wouldn't be a big deal... but the music tracks in BG&E were pretty good so it's a somewhat meaningful loss. (That said, if you never played the other versions to know what you are missing out on, then you'd never know or care about the omission. I'm still happy to own the GameCube version.)

Surprised no one mentioned Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. When Sons of Liberty was released on PS2, it was announced that the game would be ported to the Xbox with extra content (biggie for MS back then... and now actually). Unfortunately, the port didn't fair so well. The game wasn't optimized to make use of the more powerful hardware and almost feels like it's being emulated. Lots of chop where there wasn't any before.

The PS2 version of Substance runs just as well as Sons of Liberty did. It's also easier to play the game using the controller it was designed for in the first place.

I always bought multi platformers for the PS2 because of collection reasons, so I never played anything but xbox exclusives on the xbox
imho PS2 wins most just on the controller

Except for a few exceptions I would completely agree, NFSHP 2 as someone else mentioned is a definite for me. I played the ps2 version and absolutely loved it so I figured I'd pick it up for the xbox because that would as I thought be a superior version, trouble is it was made by a different studio using a different game engine and as such was a far less fun game.

Another issue was that some games were ps2 games that were then speedily ported to the much more powerful xbox with no intention of utilizing the greater speed and were in some cases a less enjoyable game for it.

Certainly 9 times out of 10 the xbox version was better, but not always.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. I always got my games on Xbox, they seemed to have better graphics and you could listen to your own custom soundtrack on games that supported it, such as Tony Hawk and GTA.

NCAA football 06 was superior on ps2 even though graphically the xbox version was slightly better. The big problem on the xbox version was the obscene amount of dropped passes even with the wr catch slider maxed out.

I read that the original Burnout had more responsive control on the PS2 than the Xbox version.

Also, there's been some debates where people have claimed that the PS2 version of Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast looks a little sharper and runs at a higher framerate (60 fps) than the Xbox version.
