Re: Need Good Game Recommendations for GBs, Game Gear, & SMS
ACTUALLY I didn't get a Wii until this past July. And when I bought I said to myself, "okay first order of biz is to download MM9" ...and I just never did. I always meant to download both, but I don't know. My wife has bought a couple of VC games, but I haven't myself yet. I guess I'm just so no thrilled with digital distribution, so I keep forgetting. Of course now I think I'm dragging my feet because I'm secretly wishing that Capcom will release both on a UMD. But I suppose that's a bit of a pipe dream.

I was thinking of all of them, but I on the other hand, LOVE the metroid style games.noiseredux wrote:which?Bradtemple87 wrote:Castlevania
Castlevania: The Adventure is pretty meh by all accounts. Although, I still kind of secretly love it, as it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. It was actually in my first handful of GB games back in the day.
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge is better. Kind of.
Castlevania Legends is more better. More kind of.
OR were you were you referring to the GBA games? (Of which I've really only played Circle Of The Moon -- shock! Horror! Right? It is kind of strange, cuz I love Castlevania games in general, but in all honesty I prefer the linear games to the Metroid-ish games).

Here are some of my favorites.
GBC - Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons though my favorite is Seasons.
Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - outstanding
GBA - There are a bunch of great games here.
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Castlevania Double Pack
Boktai & Boktai 2 - you need the sun though so those in a southern climate are better off.
Advance Wars - either game is a great strategy game
Fire Emblem and FE Sacred Stones - two more great strategy games
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - must own; A Link To the Past is obviously great as well
Metroid Fusion
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories - an interesting card battling action game
Banjo-Kazooie is one of my 3 favorite non-Mario platformers, that I've played
Nightmare Before Christmas and
Drill Dozer are the others
Anguna - a homebrew Zelda type game, thanks Noise
Yu-Gi-Oh! card battle games - I've spent too many hours on these
Golden Sun - for when you want to try an RPG
There are so many great GBA games that you can't go wrong just trying things out. Don't forget about Gamecube interaction as well.
I heartily recommend you read Noise's blog. The whole thing is fun and informative.
I just got a PSP and have a Game Gear incoming so I'm interested in hearing what the good games are for those.

I forgot about PSP. Is it even still out there? I never really noticed seeing games for it anymore in the stores. How are the games for it?
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

I recently rebought my PSP after a 2 yr hiatus. I love it now. I feel like it's targeted at Retro-ists. Lots of remakes and re-releases like all those Capcom collections for instance. Then you've got "new retro games" like Half-Minute Hero, Prinny, Holy Invasion Of Privacy..., and things like that.Evildeadmanwalking77 wrote:I forgot about PSP. Is it even still out there? The UMD is a format I do not want to see go away. First off I think it is hands down the best looking game box. Then you've got companies like Xseed publishing these beautiful collector's editions. A lot of their games include soundtrack CD's and other extras (the re-release of Lunar came with soundtrack and cards, others include maps and books).
2011 releases I'm already looking forward to:
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (remake)
Ys I & II collection
Final Fantasy IV + The After Years
Final Fantasy 0 (a sequel of sorts to XIII)
oh and it's region-free. So um hello Japanese-only Shmups!!!
and then of course there's the matter of homebrew. Thanks to vlame on here, I'm running Official FW 6.20 and yet by running a simple program called TN HEN, I can now keep OFW and still run homebrew. There's emulators for everything. If that's yr thing. I used the 2600 emu to play Halo 2600 for instance. And there's even an amazing homebrew port of Cave Story!
Re: Need Good Game Recommendations for GBs, Game Gear, & SMS
I've been seriously checking out the PSP library and I agree that the PSP is great for retrogaming. There is a ton of rereleases and compilations not to mention PSone Classics. While it doesn't have as much retro potential as the Wii I can't wait to pick one up.noiseredux wrote:I recently rebought my PSP after a 2 yr hiatus. I love it now. Noise, I read your blog some more and i loved it! Awesome job dude, keep it up! Now let me get this straight with these Super Mario Advanced (sorry I know you don't like to refer to them as that) games on GBA since even though I read the blog I'm still a little confused. They are just ports of the SMB 2, SMW, etc? Are they upgrades similar to Super Mario All Stars on SNES?
I also read someone's blog about Mario Bros. vs Mario Bros "Classic"? There are two original Mario Bros games?
That really just confused the living shit out of me and I couldn't finish reading it because there was an error on the site and I got booted off.

the SMB Advance games are more like the All-Stars. They have tweaks. New audio, save menus, some graphical changes for GBA resolution.
