It is difficult to design a game so that not only does the player have access to a large array of game mechanics and tricks, but is taught throughout the game to use them efficiently and practically, and even more difficult to design these mechanics in such a way that it creates fluid gameplay that gives the player a sense of accomplishment. Few games are able to do this, and usually when they do, it usually comes at the expense of more game mechanics; instead of giving the player a large set of tools that they won't use, you give them a medium set of tools that you know they will use. I am obviously not a game designer, so this is just observation, but I just thought I should give my two cents on the matter.

I never could understand what it is about them that make people go after them. If they were actually a challenge to get then I would understand, but most of them you get just from doing something lame.... like beating a level. Beating a level for a gamer should be a standard... not a reward.
But for some reason people crave them, maybe it is because it makes them feel like a better gamer.... or a.... "pro".
PS: Whoever said fighting games are one of the (if not) the hardest genre to MASTER, is right.

The Pokemon collector mentality. Hey mine is not trophies, stuck on the PS2 and all that stuff in Katamari.

Do not compare us to those crazies, us being the Pokemon collectors.
