I don't press the buttons, I slap the shit out of them. If you look at any pro players (I'm not saying I'm anywhere near that standard) they do it as well. I do the same in bemani, absolutely slap the fuck out of those buttons. It's the only way I can keep time.
I agree it definitely helps with trials, but top players in the world use pad as well. Take a look at Vangief, Vance destroys and has been on a huge run throughout the tournament scene with his Zangief.

Yes but Zangief is pretty much the only character that gives you an advantage when playing with a pad. He's the only character I will play when I'm round friend's houses and I have to deal with a pad. Those 360/720 inputs are childs play on an analogue stick.

If I can get away with it I'll stick with the normal controller for everything because I don't like to keep switching controllers, two that work well for everything would be good.
However in the case of the Xbox360 because the dpad is so shit I switch to the wired Street Fighter IV pad for games that use dpad controls rather than analog.
The dpad still isn't perfect but it's better than the 360 default.
Best controller ever would be the Sega Saturn pad it has the perfect layout for fighters and the best dpad I've ever used on any system.
