The trick in pawn shops is check every one you pass. Even crazy uncle joe's house of tools will have a game or two laying around. The other thing is that 90% of items were sold out of desperation for a very low sum. Bring a game with you and try to sell it. He will give you a price and you can put that number on every other game he has. Bargain from there.
I will bust out my signature line on anyone anywhere at anytime after a short conversation about a game I want. It goes like this:
"There is a fine line between priceless and worthless. As long as that game sits under that glass it is worthless to both of us. But if you let me take it home today, then it is worth [bargaining price] to you and it is priceless to me."
It works nine out of ten times. It's best delivered with a southern drawl, like if Andy Griffith was really into Boogerman.

Sorry to bring a six month old thread back, but instead of posting a new one about garage/yard sales and thrift stores I found this one and there are some nice tips in here. Just wanted to express my thanks - and comment on how clever that quote up there is.

just another day . . .

I remember doing this as a kid when going to the flea market. Would use the same line for a newest Madden and they would take it.gtmtnbiker wrote:This reminds me of a time when I was selling some stereo equipment for something like $100 and the guy said, "Would you accept $80 cause that's all I have". I said, "Fine" and he gives me a wad of bills which I totaled up as $100! I give him back $20 and said you gave me too much, $100, not $80. The guy was pretty embarrassed.
