Re: Truly Scary Movies?

As a child I got scared easily, I remember back in the day people got scared much more too
Computer use was much less(maybe none?) and people were not as knowledgeable as today.
So they got scared much easier.
Today they can probably tell its a blue-screen, a large puppet, or CG, they don't get scared. Back in the day you had to scratch your head a lot to know if the things were real or not, at least you will wonder how they did it.
I can't say what is a truly scary movie, people get scared from different things, just like they find different things funny or not .
I think we must be clear on what is scary, and what is not.
1)Gross/disgust : Movie makers think they can scare you with disgusting stuff like someone eating an eye, or blowing blood out of ears. Gross but not scary . Ex...Saw
2) Disturbing : Movies that won't scare you but gives you unpleasant ideas. I am especially disturbed by rape scenes, and child abuse. Disturbing but not scary. Ex..Mystic River
3)Jump: This is the cheapest scare tactic ever , even if it works. Its the easiest. They just make it look like nothing is happening then something would jump on the screen with some loud noise. Shocking or scary? you decide ...Ex...most horror movies.
4) Mind/Psychology: These movies are the kind I consider scary but they are rare and few. They are the ones that make you think and scared of "What if's" . They would show you a story or situation that will play with your mind. Two ways to know if any certain movie falls in this category:
1- Scare effect last even after the movie is over, you will still be feeling uncomfortable hours later
2-The movie is still scary even if you told it as a story to someone you know, he doesn't need to watch it.
I guess Dracula is of this type, if you never heard of Vampires before.
in conclusion most movies are not scary, as an adult its really hard to get scared because of a movie. I just hate the "jump" tactic, that is what gets me nervous in horror movies I don't like the shock.
The best movies I consider Scary and are actually good to watch from recent times
1-1408
2-The Skeleton Key
Sorry for the long post, I just have something for Horror movies since I was a little kid
