But to the appreciation part.... I know alot of people hated the 32x version of Doom but that was the first exposer I had with that game and I still play it every now (even though its not that great, but it has character!) I love my big black / gray mushroom!
The music was god awful but the gameplay was one of the best versions to come to console, besides having only half the levels. If only it had the SNES music...

As for that video, I've seen it for a long time and still wonder what would have been possible had the Neptune come out, etc.

Since Neptune was just a 32x / Genesis rolled in one, wouldn't the possibilities be the same regardless of its form factor? Or am I missing something here, I'm no EE major lol.

@BananaXX

The reason that the Mega CD and 32X failed wasn't that the technology wasn't sound - as a kid I was amazed by both - it's that as aftermarket additions to your existing Genesis they divide the customer base into the have's and the have not's.

You have to market toward whichever group is the largest and in this case it was the have not's, making the add-ons a waste. The Neptune would have given Sega a real shot at consolidating their customer base.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

@Flake: That is true. I saw what Xonticus said just thought they meant from a technological prospective, didn't even think about the market.

And all this 32x talk made me go play Metal Head and Doom. To bad there is almost no homebrew for 32x.

Speaking of the 32X,
Wasn't a major reason for it's failure also the fact that the Saturn was about to be released and the consumer just wasn't going to invest on a "pseudo" type 32-bit add-on system, when the next gen console was about to enter the market?

You are correct sir.

The Saturn had already been announced by the time the 32x came out.

There was a lot of internal stupidity going on at Sega in the 90s, and apparently part of that was the regional divisions actually working against each other.

Honestly I could be wrong as I don't remember exactly, but I bet Original_Name would be able to give the exact details (anyone seen him lately?). Its a really interesting story, though infuriating if you're a Sega fan.

My favorite Sega 32X game was Knuckles Chaotix easily. I also play Tempo sometimes which is another very fun game. :)

I'd like to see some retro developers pick up the 32X CD as a homebrew platform. Imagine how much more the Sonic Megamix team could do...

Just got a 32x and have a quick question: I've read (somewhere, maybe here in the forums) that the 32X improves the quality of regular Genny games because of ______.

Can someone explain if this is true because of the power that it consumes and the space it's A/C adapter takes on my powerstrip I could do without it on most days if there is no advantage.
Thanks.
