Component for Game Cube, N64, and Jaguar?
Re: Component for Game Cube, N64, and Jaguar?
I had been misinformed (possibly) that HD DVDs needed a special player as well. A question I have is if you can play regular DVDs on a Blue Ray player. They are pretty cheap now, as low as $100, but I think we will stick with our regular DVD player because we have ssoo many DVDs that I would hate to have sitting around getting dust. I am sick in the head a bit and would feel the need to rebuy all of them in Blu-ray format. I ended up hooking the DVD player up HDMI as I found out that my DVD player has the ports. Wii is in Component, GC is composite (although I am looking for GC component cables), and N64 is in composite. When I find those GC cables I will hook the Jag up composite. Mostly trying to get everything hooked up to the TV so I can get rid of some switch boxes. Down to one now which is nice. I never asked, but does hooking all these things into the TV lessen the quality of each's signal? Maybe a silly question, but I could have sworn the HD channels on the TV looked a little more grainy after setting everything up. It could have been something in my head as well as I am a bit OCD and tend to get hyper sensitive to little details when I am at my worst. Also, is the 3-5 second delay when switching channels normal? Doesn't always happen.

Hooking up more than one console to a tv does not decrease quality unless you are daisy chaining them through RF.
The channel switching is normal. My old HDTV did that.

Or unless something is seriously wrong with one of the cables or devices, or unless you are using a REALLY cheap switch boxChuChu Flamingo wrote:Hooking up more than one console to a tv does not decrease quality unless you are daisy chaining them through RF.

Eh it's a basic switchbox, but I didn't notice it before. The only console I have hooked up via RF is the Genesis, which I would love to get composite cables for. I hear they are tough to find also.flamepanther wrote:Or unless something is seriously wrong with one of the cables or devices, or unless you are using a REALLY cheap switch boxChuChu Flamingo wrote:Hooking up more than one console to a tv does not decrease quality unless you are daisy chaining them through RF.

DVDs will play fine in a BluRay player. Since you have HDMI on your DVD player, it has a built in upscaler. Try the settings (not the disc) DVD Player Menu to get the best pic. Keep in mind the BluRay Player won't improve the regular DVDs any more then your upscaler HDMI connected DVD player. But BluRay discs do look fantastic, a trade off of reinvestment and non-compatibilty to the bedroom and car DVD players.vash23n wrote:A question I have is if you can play regular DVDs on a Blue Ray player. Your N64 and Jaguar will look better with a S-Video cable and an upscaler to VGA with your non S-Video HD. Doesn't matter how many consoles are attached, the switchboxes and or HD control which signal to display. Grainy TV channels are either a bad RF cable, the station or a weak signal from the cable provider.
The channel delay could be a slowed down feed at the higher resolution. The cable box and your HD has to switch resolutions when going from regular to HD stations. Even when switching between two HD stations. I turned off the Higher resolutions and only receive in 480p thru my TV cable box. The Pic is fine, a compromise to get the instant TV remote control channel surfing.

Please, one more system to clutter our TV stand and my wife will throw me off of the balcony. Also, I discovered that the connection between the HD box and HDMI cable is messed up, like it is loose or something. I love that my one day off for the last two weeks will be spent messing with freaking Comcast.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Why not just buy a PS3? UPDATE: I have been a firm supporter of Comcast for years! I never understood the trouble people had with their service or customer service. Today may have tipped them out of my favor. Hours, I mean hours spent on the phone trying to activate my new cable box that I got since the last one was screwed up. Finally, about a half hour ago, I was told that the box is a dud and I have to freaking go back and get another new one. Nice waste of my day off.
Funny, at first they were trying to convince me there was a service outage in my area, but they realized that wouldn't fly when I told them my other cable box was working fine. Nice simple basic cable box. I brought it out and hooked it up temporarily to my other TV and it worked immediately. Is a fantastic looking picture truly worth the extra time and effort?

I have comcast or "xfinity" ooh. I hate them. I haven't experienced a cable company I like. I wish Fios would install in Alexandria VA.
The one guy mentioned the PS3 because it would double as a Blu Ray Player, and one of the best ones I might add, although as a diehard Nintendo fanboy I think I just died a little bit inside. I'm still waiting on the SNES CD Sony.

I just bought one last month for ninety-nine cents. There's a seller on eBay named techbabe who shipped it out real fast.vash23n wrote:The only console I have hooked up via RF is the Genesis, which I would love to get composite cables for. I hear they are tough to find also.
Make sure you buy the right composite cable. The model one Genesis uses a different composite cable from the model two or three.
